Before i came to california, everyone told me how monterey was the most gorgeous spot in the country and it was the best place to live and omg omg omg....so far ive lived here 6 months and..

1) the cost of living is outrageous and compeltely not worth the fact that i live near a beach. at all. the water is ******* frigid anyhow...if you dont like to surf (aka wear a wetsuit) you might as well forget it.

2) the weather here SUCKS. its ******* june and feels like december. maybe im spoiled from living in the south but its always foggy, rainy and most of the time bad here. its june and i still have to turn on my space heater at night on some nights and wether i do or not i freeze my ass off in the mornings. its june and for PT we are still wearing full winter uniforms at work.

3) its like living in a damn tourist trap. you pay the ridiculous prices that tourists pay and you might get decent quality(insert item or food here) or you might even get less. i cant imagine why so many families come here for a vacation. if i was a kid and my family brought me here in june where i had to wear sweaters, long pants, and jacket id be ******* pissed. and its expensive as hell...

4) there isnt s*** to do here unless you like to sit ont he damn beach and not go in the water (50% of the time when the weather is nice enough to do that with full gear on). once you do the tourist thing 10 times and pay outrageous prices for everything it gets old.

5) gas here sucks. not only is it normally close to 3 bucks a gallon but you get 91 octane is your absolute best and problably some al gore tree hugger supporters piss in it and make it even worse because my car ran like s*** once i moved here. top that with the tree huggers and stupid pigs (read: cops) and this place is a real joy for car modders.

6) finally, if you live elsewhere and want to move to cali, dont ******* move near here, it sucks. stay wherever you are (i am from pittsburgh and i would rather live ther emuch more, or even southern friggin oklahoma).

thanks for the warning! but i hear ya on the living conditions.

Redlands is well.... Redlands... part of the Inland Empire near San Bernardino. the weather is OK here. smog sucks. b/c i'm inland, we don't get any of the ocean breeze to blow the bad smog away. it kinda just hangs in the valley. sometimes i forget there are mountains here cuz you can't see it through the haze. prices are high here, but i guess that's california for you. i'm from Toronto, Canada, so yeah, this is a big change for me. don't get me wrong though, i like it down here. it's very different from Toronto, so it's still interesting and intriguing to me. however, i moved here b/c of work and i like it alot, so i guess that is the main thing that is keeping me here for now.

LA is fine. :p

weather is nice. there are reasonably priced places to live if you care to look. tons of things to do within 2 hrs drive. (beach, skiing, hiking, racetracks, amusement parks, etc.)

yeah, plenty of things to do... i'm not gonna argue with that! :)

Eh south cali is better in my opinion. I live in San Diego and I wouldn't want to move anywhere else, and I been to many places. The weather is flawless here 330 days of the year. Yeah the economy is higher paced here, but the upside is we generally get paid more for the same job.

Lol i was just there today. It's a nice place to visit but yeah. I prefer living in really expensive san jose. It's pretty and all but living in monterey wouldn't seem too fun the whole time. anyways, if you don't want to pay outrageous prices, just stay away from california.
