I think the guy really might not have known what it was. My friend Blondie (yes a girl...) runs AutoX with her dad in a Fiero. She's really quite car literate. Didn't know a damn thing about my car. That'll be fun when I hit my first autocross with them and surprise the s*** out of everybody. hehehehehehe! And the funny thing is, she was driving her dad's bimmer 5 series yesterday..ha!

this thread is not meant to start a flame or anything like that.. i just want to know how anyone could confuse an MSP with a NEON!!!! i was at our local like "weekend car spot" when this guy walks up to me asking to buy my car (orange MSP) and then continues to say, "that's a neon right?"!!! i was like, you're kinding right? he continued to answer "no" and was in a very serious tone.. he walked up closer and went to the back and saw the mazda badge and the protege badge... he then told me that it looked just like a neon he saw the other day..
ok, now in what way does an MSP look like a neon?? anyone know? please let me know..

you gotta understand that ppl dont know s*** about cars. they think they do but they dont. hell i even admit i dont know alot about cars. i confuse cars all the time.. Think its one then get up on it and its something different. i find it hard to believe that the guy mixed up the two cars.. but hey. if he doesn't know s*** then yeah it could easily be confused. A BMW 7 series without a CD player?? I didn't know that cassettes were standard anymore in a luxury car. As for him calling your MSP a Neon just ask him to go back to the dealership and buy a Kia and go splatter himself on the highway so the rest of us can enjoy life without Fucktards like him.

Aah, give the guy a break. All some people notice about cars is color, and let's face it, the orange is a color that some less-informed people (just uninformed, not "ignorant") would associate more with a Neon.

Combine withat with Mazdaspeed Proteges, and actually Protege's in general, not being as common as the various Hondas, Mitsus, and Neons, and some confusion is a natural.

Give the guy a break, use it as an opportunity to educate, and you develop a friend, possible ally, and heck, maybe he'll even trade that BMW in for a car with a decent radio. Take it the negative way (that he's some sort of ignoramus jerk who deserves many undescribably evil things happen to him) and the guy walks away with a bad opinion about MSP owners.

Kill 'em with kindness - a technique that works well even IF the guy's a jerk. At least he appreciated the car and the "look" enough to ask...

ping---- well said... i did see him sunday night... he did say that it was the color that led him to believe it was a neon... he apologized and we continued to talk about our cars for about 30mins... he had to go meet some ppl or something.. anyway.. he was nice about it, and i was civil... no arguments, and no throwing of fists or anything... just another good night at the spot!!
oh now there was a yellow 2003.5 MSP owner that was SERIOUSLY talking some s*** though... he said he's had his car up to 182mph and then he backed off... i wanted to call his HUGE bluff (especially considering the odo only goes to 140mph, and he has not enough mods to increase that much) but i didn't want to start anything..
how many mods would you have to do to get to 182mph on MSP?
