How to turn off an Airbag?

Hy folkz, the Austrian Guy is back :D

You remember me? -The one who wanted Altezzas for his P5/323F. I think this was about a half year ago. -And my english doesnt improve much in this time :)

Well...the Altezzas didnt fit and it was a lot of work to make them fit...but heres the
result:

But thats not the reason why Im showing up again.

From my further car I have still two racingseats lying around at home. Last weekend I wantet to install them, but the original-seats are connected to the airbagsystem. So when I remove the plug which connects the seat with the system the whole airbagsystem doesnt work and the signal lamp of the airbag shines on and on.
I already asked a mechanic, but he said it isnt possible to solve the problem with a laptop. (I wanted him to connect somehow to the control unit and to tell the airbagsystem to work without the sideairbags of the original seats).
Then I asked the producer of the seats, but they didnt answer...

So I thought that maybe someone of you has an idea how this could work? (Maybe a plug that simulates the original seat?)

Thanks a lot, your man from oversea :D

This is sort of important... Unplug the negative battery terminal, AND pull the SRS (Supplimental Restraint System) fuse in the engine compartment. Just to be safe. You DON'T want that airbag going off in your face. =)

:) good idea!

But this post brings something up to my mind...Are there 2 different fuses? -One for the sideairbags and one for driver and bydriver? -What about taking this fuse out? Could this work?

Just taking one fuse out should work, but the battery cable is just for safety. =) I'm not sure if there are two seperate fuses for the SRS system, but I'll look into it and get back to you.

Racing seats

Hello Austrian

Before you spend time trying to install your racing seats, let me give you this advice.

I did try to install my OMP REC seat in my P5 and the thing I found out (the hard way) is that the seat (bottom) is much longer on an aftermarket than the stock, and, because of the height, they are very uncomfortable (unless you have very long thighs). In order to be suitable, the aftermarket seat has to be near the floor of the car. My previous car was a Civic, and it was great, but not good at all in the P5...that is why I'm selling the seat (see sig).

My .02, so you don't waste time and energy.

Thanks for the advice, but the height is no problem. I already installed the seat and tested it. -It felt good, but I dont want to go without an airbag in the front...

By the way, out of curiosity, what type of seats did you pick up? I was looking at a bunch of Sparco's and Recaro's, myself.

You might want to check out how the Canadian P5 airbag systems are setup.

We don't have the side airbags like everyone else. :(

Kenig seats

To Austrian

I use to have a seat made by Kenig, and after a few months I discovered that the exterior material was being "eaten" by the sun... 2 years later, the inside foam was showing

I hope this won't happen to you.

dayum austrian person:D representing....how about you post some pics of some women from over there, eh?

Oh...I hope too...

Good News: Today I got a mail from Recaro-Seats. They have an universal-plug to simulate the side-airbag :D

I already bought it, but it will take a few days to install it...When Im finished I will send some pics. (Of the seats) :D

But I will also search for some pics of girls. Or try this page:

www.nachtschicht.at

press on the flag of Austria (red, white, red) and then on the "Donauplex" -Button.
Somewhere should be a "photos" button

ENJOY!!!
