...but I swear, I just noticed today that in 1st or 2nd gear, at approximately 2500-2700 RPM, it has some sort of buzz/resonation/whatever that's really starting to concern me. I don't think I have a hole in my muffler already, I'm wondering if something is possibly loose somewhere and it's rattling at a particular RPM. And no, it's not the infamous cold-start-rattle that I have heard before in the winter.

Has anyone else had this problem? I'm calling my dealer tomorrow to see what they can figure out... but i'm coming to you all first, because you know and love this car as much as I do, and I know lots of you all have had LOTS of experience with this FINE CAR!!! (thumb)

On my old 95 VW there was a heat shield above the CAT that would vibrate like that once it wore a little loose. Don't know if the P5 has something like that, but you might check it out.

I'm thinking it's the heat shield too. Also check the hangers of the exhaust for any excessive play.

some time I have a strange vibration but it comes from the upper back of the engine compartement...dunno what it is. When floored, it doesn't make it...

had the same problem when i got rear ended..actually it was a couple of problems...if it is just a rattling my guess would be the heat shield...the heat shield on our cars is just a thin sheet of aluminum...can be fixed by simply bending the piece that is rattling back up a little...

if the tone of your exhaust seems to be deeper like you really do have an exhaust...then most likely you have a punctured muffler or pipe somewhere...

i had both of these problems...heat shield was easy...had to replace my muffler though

Turns out that it was a slightly loosened motor mount. It wasn't loose enough to make the car CLUNK when I engaged the gears, but it enough so that it vibrated at a particular RPM.

Thanks for all the input, folks, I really value your comments!
