Hit & Run (Images)

Yeah, get the full estimate from some other shop that is trying to rip you off. Lets say they think it will be $700. Then get the estimate from your buddy's shop and he tells you $500. Give the $700 estimate your insurance company and they'll hand back $200 (700-deductable). Subtract $200 from $500 and you pay $300 because you went with your buddy...who the insurance company doesn't know about.

actually the insurance company will use their own adjuster to estimate the damage (read: no 3rd party estimates). Usually they are very lenient in their estimates, and will cut you a check with a very generous amount that you can make good use of :)

Yes, but you can fight with them and tell them you want it done by a specific shop, and that is their price. Your right though, they usually give you more than enough.

Hey, when my Grand Marquis got hit, my estimate was 1200...they took a look at it and said it was a total loss and cut me a check for 3200. . .and I didn't have to give them the car!

That's what I'm doing. Going to my buddy first... get his price...

Then my insurance company gave me an option of going to a list of body shops (They do all the leg work, hand me a rental and do the paperwork) on thier list without an adjuster and get a quote right there. I have Farmers insurance...

If I can make a few $$$ on this I most likely will... :D

sorry to hear about your accident as well...the guy was probably driving an old wreck and doesnt care about it. It gets me how people manage to hit parked cars!

I was wondering where you got that MP5 badge?
