Most important gauges (to me) are (in my order of preference):

1) tie: Oil pressure / oil temperature: With the turbo, you NEED to know when the oil is warm and "flowy" enough to get into the boost. Water temp won't tell you that, as the water warms faster than the oil.

2) Boost: Because it's cool, the needle moves a lot, and it helps to know to stay OUT of the boost until she's warmed up (see "1" above...)

3) Volts: Because it's good to know. Ordinarily this would be the first to tell you a "fan" belt is shot, but (especially with a powerful stereo) it's a good piece of info to have.

Now I have to re-read the posts above to find the ones that best match the interior colors - designer or not, I'm buying them once, probably taking a bunch of time (and/or money) to install them, looking at them often, and I want to be reminded of what they're telling me rather than "well, they're OK, I got 'em cheap"!

Dude Boost, A/F, EGT, oil press. Are you saying that you would rather know the volts of thge car than the A/f ratois? Most turbo timers have a volt meter built into them anyway.

Get the Greddy! The only Autometer gauge I would run would be a boost gauge. The greddy is a litlle more accurate cause it electric. I paid $180 for mine. The silver face match perfect. light up the same as our gauges to. The greddy have peak hold, memory, warning light and a switched ground. That way if you hit the warning you can make it turn off a boost contoller, turn on your windshield wipers or whatever. (sorry about the big pics lazy didnt want to shrink them)

damn, all this talk and arguement about guages. This is want i want:

Boost: so i know where i peak at and when boost starts.
EGT (maybe): overkill, but is 2 purpose. lets you know mixture and egt.
oil temp: so i don't f-up my turbo with whack oil
water temp: cuz our turbos are water cooled

5. Oil temp- why not?, not now.

I choose Greddy, why? Because of the Warning light feature. You can even add a buzzer, and thats what Im going to do. So Im selling my brand new but opened Autometer Boost Gauge.

All I want is safety...having that, will position them on optimal places. Need a view where the warning light can call my attention without moving my eye farther.

Say there I-AM-Chrissy. I am diggin that big ol ranch pic and the Ghetto mount is just so sweet. JK I'll be lucky just to get the dang gauge in right and I'm not even sure I will hook the power to it for the light. I could some how figure out a way to cause a short even with a how to Your gauge is in a good spot to be read.
I would like to come by and check out your setup and maybe do a little Q/A with you on the gauge install. I have to order it then I can install my MBC.

The point: Spending money on one gauge is completly different then spending money on gauges that you do not need (if you are not performing HUGE amounts of custom work to the engine).

If you want to waste your "hard earned money" on a bunch of gauges that do not do s***, then go ahead (waste your money).

I have the autometer ultra lite gauges and don't regret buying them one bit. They look fine, work as they should, and were a good price. It's obviously not the highest quality gauge, but they jet the job done. If autometer didn't make working products, I'm sure they wouldn't be a popular business today.

How did everyone look up the lighting for their gauges? To the headlights/foglights/ignition? Anyone have pics of their work hooking the gauge up to the foglights or headlights? That's what I want to do, but I don't want to start just chopping up wires.

hey t3ase, i hooked up the lighting on my greddy gauge to the 12V parking light wire. i dont know if i have any pics of it ...but its the big harness right on the left side, when you take off the lower dash panel under the steering wheel. the wire color is in the car audio/ electronics section, but use a multimeter to verify.
