2005 Mazda Mazda6 i Sedan, in pretty ORANGE :D
Hello everyone, I am very happy to find these forums, and even happier to be the proud owner of a new (well, pre-owned, but new to me!) Mazda6. :) After 35 years on this planet, this former NYC girl has finally gotten her license and her caboose into a car (no more car services or buses or subways for errands - yay!)

Thrilled to finally have my first set of wheels, but after buying a GPS learned 2 days post-buying that the cigarette lighter doesn't work! Long story short, read the manual, it was a blown fuse, took the spare from under the hood, works fine now, but would want to replace that spare (just in case it's needed!)

I admit I know absolutely NOTHING (well other than fixing that fuse I guess!) about cars or being a car owner, so was hoping you would humor me to confirm if I'm right or wrong here.... (dunno)

To buy a fuse (15amp) to replace the spare - I'm seeing one that looks very similar from sears - but I don't want to buy the "wrong" thing (being a total noob) -

Does this look right to the experts here?? I don't want to get the wrong thing and end up screwing anything up - part of me is wary because it seems to be so cheap?!? Can this be right??? (help)

I tried google and 'searching' these forums, but i'm not seeming to find my answer anywhere else! (Probably waaay too dumbed-down of a query!) So I apologize for such a newbish post which likely has half of you rolling your eyes and the other half wanting to flame-the-girly-post (that being said, can I hide behind the fact I AM female to justify my car-dumbness? how about hiding behind the fact I am also blonde??? *blush*

Thank you anyone for helping yay or nay, I don't have really anyone else I could ask so I'm relying on a little kindness from strangers. I hope to learn a lot more lurking around here as time goes on, and maybe one day know enough to repay the kindness by helping any other newbies who stroll on in. :)

Thanks!!

Looks like you got the right one. As long as you match the size and match the current rating (amps), then you're okay. Never, ever go up in amps. Also, if you bring the blown fuse into the shop, any Sears/AutoZone/Advance/CarQuest/RadioShack employee worth his or her salt should be able to match it up.

Welcome to the forums! You'll find that we're a fairly friendly bunch and always looking to help.

thank you so much for the quick response! i hopped in my car (i am still at the point where ANY EXCUSE to drive makes me squeal with glee lol) and went to the local AutoZone... found a nice little kit with spares, I figured good to have some extras around - really appreciate the nod that i was getting the right one! :)

welcome to the forum! tonnes of knowledgeable people on here (i am not one of them) so if you have anymore questions dont hesitate to ask. (:

also, is it the v6 model?

also, is it the v6 model?

no it's a v4 - fine for me, i'm a little bit of a scardy cat with speeds, still getting used to the fact i'm finally driving, also it's mostly for misc. errands, commuting - nothing too crazy ;) seems to be fine though - it's a really smooth ride, i'm enjoying finding excuses to take it out on the road! :)

thank you all very much for the welcomes, i'm glad i found a good nook on the web to be a sponge to all the knowledge here. i must say just fixing this fuse alone (which is of course basic i'm sure, but for me - big grin ear to ear!) has me all kinds of interested into everything about it. i'm definitely a DIY type, usually limited to household, but seems that interest is branching out with my new baby parked out back! :D

Well, actually is an I4, not a V4...although Honda did make some very interesting motorcycles with V4 engines.

And remember, not matter what they tell you...there is no such thing as "blinker fluid", and you do not have a "muffler bearing". (flash)

...Oh, and by the way, we're going to need to see some more pictures, please...

I4... not V4... gotcha... and thanks! definitely new, and late to the car-party, but I'm really enjoying learning! Quick Q though - I may be wrong, but from what I read the "V" comes from the way the cylinders look arranged, is that right? So would that mean the only difference between an I and a V the way they are arranged?

I will post pics in a few, I have to at least go thru a car wash first (you would think my dealer would have it nice and shiny right???) :)

btw... "blinker fluid" and "muffler bearing" --- ok i've definitely never heard those terms, but wondering if there is some kind of story involved there, perhaps like a dodgy mechanic story rooking a noob... :P (which is definitely why i'm beefing up on my know-how, I wouldn't want to be 'that' girl!)

hehe, yay. basically its making fun of bogus stories that shady mechanics give customers.
In the tuner community there a things like that sometimes gets srsly asked about to weed out the posers who act like they know everything from the truely naive.

the truely naive will simply ask "whats that, or ive never heard of that"... while the know-it-alls will say "yes i have those/replaced those/etc".

anyway, glad you got a mazda for your first car.
thats a pretty damn good option as a first, my first car was a beat up old 91 ranger. :( haha.

oh and to your question before that... yes thats about right.
the v6 arrangement actually looks like a "V"

and the i4, as in "inline 4", is basically a straight line-up design.

cheers!

wow, that is pretty cool, thank you for the pics & explanation. haha as for mechanics i have no problem admitting i'm certainly not a know-it-all, more like a know-nothing! but i'm hoping that my new yorker blood has a built-in scam sensor that I don't get rooked into spending more than necessary!

still finding excuses to drive! :) i'm assuming the shiny-new-toy factor will start to fade as my gasoline expenses start piling up!!!

Nope...I've been driving for about 6 years now...its still fun :)

the 6 is an awesome car even if you have just the 6i....like me....i push my car and have fun with it all the time lol
