Heater fan failing at 18,000

So my heater fan starts making that lovely whirring sound they make in old cars when the fan is dying. I turned the system off for a few seconds and when I turned it back on it didn't make the noise, but I'm not looking forward to the morning commute. At least it's under warranty. PITA!

Is there more than one in the heater system? I realize that could sound like I'm being a wiseass, but believe me, it isn't intended that way. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if there were two fans in there even without dual zone controls.

Thanks for the responses. I didn't really expect anything by way of help with this as there is nothing to be done except to wait for it to get really bad and bring it in for a warranty repair. Mostly I was just venting my frustration at what I know will turn out to be a PITA before it is resolved.

Anyway, the commute this morning was uneventful. Not a peep out of the blower, which means that it will turn out to be one of those lovely intermittent problems that will never happen at the dealership until after the bumper to bumper warranty is up.

You may have some foreign object that is intermittently interfering with the fan caught in the fresh air intake for the cabin air. This could be anything from a defective cabin filter, to an oak tree leaf that has been worn into submission by daily use/abuse/neglect. It could also be a mixing door that is not closing properly when a particular setting is requested by the climate control system. Does this occur when you have the system set to anything in particular? Or, does this happen specifically in the DEF mode or the vent mode or
floor mode etc? Sometimes cold weather can cause the lubricants in these systems to become less viscous and wreak havoc with noisy hvac components. Try operating you climate control in different modes to see if the noise still persists. (mine has been working fine in temps as low as -30F!)
