Header pic

Whoah man, this is looking very very good!!!!

Plain and simple facts....30+HP GAIN --->about 3psi of boost from a turbo setup???

Even if I think that $1350 for all those mods is a lot of money, the power/money ratio is better than a turbo setup....

So...I've changed my mind on getting a turbo (for now)...if I can get my car to have that power in the wheels for that amount of $$$, I will def DO IT.

NICE JOB...

My commendments. I am very impressed with the power going down. It looks like we're gonna be trying this very soon. I will source a couple of companies that produce this header and offer the simulator needed to eliminate the check engine light. We will do the mod necessary and offer the highflow cat as well. Let me look into the feesability of this and we'll see what we can get going.

Reground stock cams

Thats were the power is coming from. . . . I suspect that header probably accounts for less than a 1/3 of those gains. . . .

Power is in the head. . . .

Every compared a Honda Vtec head with our FS head, or any other head for that matter?. . . Honda heads offer HUGE flow capabilities, ports look like they come off a NASCAR race car, coupled with the aggressive cams, the Honda motors make some significant high rpm power with the little torque the make. My point, if you want N/A power, work on the head (ie. cylinder head, cams and valve train).

is that why all the FS dyno's i have seen drop torque over 4500 rpm?

(scratch) hmmmm.....

Is that the smell of 15.9s on the quarter mile....???

I think so...

non v-tec civics with 112HP@wheels (torque sucker) are 16.3s

Mp3s are doing 16.0-16.3

what do you guys think??

I really do believe the the cams play the biggest part. My grind is HUGE compared to the stock ones, alot more lift and duration. But the head... unless it's different on you car, Bryan, I don't think it looks too shabby. It's rough but it looks like it just needs some cleaning up more than anything.

The older FS motor and the newer ones share the same head casting. Don't get me wrong the head design is not necessarily bad on the FS. The FS head has a good path through the head (ie. not to deviated). Port size is typically of most DOHC heads, but does not stack up against the Honda head ports sizes, they are BIG. I good port job, polish it up, valve job, aggressive cams, then have the ECU tuned for it all would probably reak significant gains. . . as your cam regrind has already demonstrated, IMO. . .

Have you even reprogrammed the ECU since the cam swap?

There is no one that can reprogram the Protege ECU Bryan we aren't as lucky as yoru probe boys....our only option for tuning is either piggyback such as the Link systems for turbo or in the case of NA we can do fuel with an eManage but if we want fuel and timing we have to go stand alone. Hows your turbo probe coming BTW???

Yeah whatever happened to this. I emailed RacingMazda and they said they have plans to do a Protege header but it wouldn't be for awhile.

My thoughts were for $290 I could install it without the EGR hooked up and drive to a muffler shop and have them weld up a new connection for me. Would this be feasible? Is EGR extremely important to functionality of the car (ie. can I make it to the exhaust shop)?

Whatever happend to ARD MP5 on this? :)
