Guess what BEGI is doing??

That's cool, I wonder who is going to market it when it is done.

FM Focus??

Anyway, I bet the Protege turbo really opened the door for a turbo kit that will retain all stock emissions equipment on cars where the first cat is right there off the manifold.

Neat...

Whats the deal with the "reprogrammed ecu?" I wounder who does that?

Could it be done for our cars?
No it can't. The closest is FM but I belive even they have a long way to go.

FM tired. They talked to Visteon (the makers of the ECU) and Mazda, but neither were willing to help out in this case.

So, FM went the hard way and had their ECU "read" and then came up with the "device" to help correct any issues...

Installing that "device" rewarded me with a look at our ECU, which is practically bullet proof beneath carpet, kick panels, and razor edged bolt down piece of sheet metal. You know what it says on that ECU - FORD! Cursive oval logo and all, FORD!

Sorry to be pointless here. I .... just ..... hate ..... FORD.

Wonder if it is the same ECU as a Focus? GRRRR FORD!!!

I didn't see ford, weird.
I have to think of another bullit proof place to put that damn thing when I relocate it to put a 8" sub in the passenger floor.
Thats alot of wires to extend but oh well.

I think, technically, Visteon (the people who programmed the ECU) is owned by Ford is a part of Ford in some manner.

It is not the same ECU as in the Focus. It might similar as shape and location (I don't know), but its not a Ford.

Ha, speaking of which, I rented a focus this weekend. Ugh. What a piece. :(

At least it didn't rattle.

Accually, the Focus ECU is in the kick pannel of the passenger side.

First I've heard of a Focus kit. I would suspect Cartech gets this one.

The current "device" didn't come from our efforts to reprogram the stock ECU. It's intended to get around a certain problem and was developed independantly. It was actually shipping before we'd even pulled out the ECU. We're still working on reprogramming.

Visteon is unable to work with us directly (they were spun off of Ford, by the way), so we're trying some reverse engineering. It's still underway - these things aren't solved in a few days, folks :) The ECU is a flashable unit, so it's quite possible that the actual hardware is the same as the Focus.

The Focus in Europe has fantastic handling. I don't know why Ford dumbed it down so much for North America - it's like a different car.

Hey Kieth. For the MS Protege, do you think they just flashed it with a new program and changed the map sensor?

Yes, they did. It's the same hardware with a different program. I don't know if the MAF sensor (it doesn't have a MAP) is different, but the injectors are.

I just did some checking. The Focus reprogramming is at the same state as our own. It's the same guy doing both.

We did nothing but Miatas for years. We're not looking at becoming NOPI here - just Miata and Protege are in the plans.

I knew we had a MAF. But I thought someone said we had a MAP sensor too? It was a while back. I was young and innocent then.

Mazdas are better than Fords anyway...HAHA, stick with the best...
