To add to this, I got my stereo replaced for real today. Only took two tries. Nice that everything works, but to make a long story shorter, I know have matching scatches for my dash on and around that silver thing around the shifter and cup holders.

Yup, somehow they managed to scratch the crap out of that while putting in the stereo.

For those too lazy to read the above link. They put in a replacement stereo ( that was doa) in a few weeks ago, and scratched my dash up.

So this time, I taped my dash up before bringing in the car. it worked. no more scratches on the dash. I never in my wildest dreams thought I would have to worry about them scratching my cup holder over when putting in the stereo....like wtf?

Anyways, rather then get contrary about it, I see a chance here to get rid of the damn thing.

You see, I like the cup holders in the mp3 a LOT better. It has the cover, and is made of a tougher material that doesn't scratch so easy, and also matches the doors better.

I can't see why the mp3 one won't fit in the speed. So, I'm going to try to get the dealer to get that one for me.

Killer is I need part numbers, and a confirmation if anyone can give it, that the thing will indeed fit.

No he is going to try and replace the scratched MSP cup holders with MP3 cup holders because he likes them better.

The cup holder in the MP3 is the same one in the 2002.0 Protege5's. I wouldnt say they dont scratch as easily because they do. And the texture doesnt match the radio trim and door switches because its not perfectly smooth. I sanded, primed and painted mine when I was molding my LCD into the dash.

The part number is BN7H-64-340-20. Wheather it will fit or not, I have no idea. I'd have to see what yours looks like.

This is the funniest s*** I've read in a while. Imagine, me get rid of the speed because of my scatched up cups after putting up with the clunk for 2 years....ha.ha.

Yes, I meant switch with the mp3 cupholders. And, at least in my car, the one in the speed is a lighter silver then my doors. Yes it's smoother, and I've had the car for a whole 3000kms and about 2-3 months, and it has more fine scratches on it then my mp3 one did after 27000 kms and 2 years. It just scratches easier.


That part number was for the mp3 cups right?. they were perfect, I loved em, u could store something in there and close the door to keep nosey people from seeing it, and it's a lot tidier then the open cup holders. I don't find the speed ones hold my drinks any better at all, so I don't really see an advantage to keeping them.

Newf, I am really interested in the MP3 cupholders as well, I like the fact that they have a cover over them, I think it will give it a much cleaner look. Also I scratched the piss out of my speed ones because I had my boost gauge sitting in there before I got my pillar mount. So please keep me updated to the part number and the cost if you find it. Thanks Newf!

hey, just so you know, while the cupholders look nice, they are very shallow. The newer cup holders do a much better job.

Nah, I wouldnt call you stupid. Theres something about Mazdas that sucks me in. I love them. I don't blame you for buying the MSP, after your MP3 had issues. I would also think Mazda would straighten a few loose ends out by now. But Im sure there busy with other things. *shrug*

Micah, I owned an mp3 for 2 yrs. I dont' find the new cups hold my drinks any better. Guess it depends if your drinking from coke cans and tim hortons like me, or some big ass giant slurpy thing, but the new ones just don't seem to have an advantage to me.
