Fog light delay to turn on.

This has been a weird problem with my 5 lately. Whenever I try to turn on my fog lights, there would be a delay before it would turn on. The delay is kinda random. Sometimes it would come on 10 seconds after I start the car. Sometimes I would have to drive it 10 minutes before it comes on. When I use the fog switch to cycle the fogs off and on, there would be a delay before the fogs turned back on again.

I made sure the car was in the correct lighting mode, typically when the parking lights are on, I am able to turn the fogs on. The fog light switch is on. Fuses appear to be fine, bulbs are new. Anyone experience something like this?

Hummm.........??

Not experienced it myself, .... but sounds either like a relay (Under the hood, there are fuse and relays just below the batter compartment. Sounds as if that relay is going bad (Moisture inside is most common cause) or the wires to the fogs are in error (Some place it's worn or has been tugged on or bent in some way that now it's gat barely al contact).

Now in a Chevy SUV, what one I can't remember, a buddy of mine had that all in one wiper, light, fog, turn signal, wiper delay, etc. ARM go bad. It is a plug in deal, same with the 5 that all in one is a plug in item to the steering column. So if you know how, take that portion apart, DO NOT USE A NORMAL TEST LIGHT PROBE (AKA: TEST LIGHT) it could make the air bad go off (BOOM!) so if you are not skilled in that area, DON'T Attempt. But if are or want to try (Be careful) youre going to need to test the massive amount of wires that run all the way from switch to fog bulbs. That could take a long time, 99% of all stock wires are wrapped really tight and are a b**** to get to.

Take it to the dealer or great repair place and ask them to check that entire turn signal arm and see if there are any signs of wear, corrosion, or broken parts.

BTW - my buddy's chevey part cost $225.00 to replace! Just a dog gone turn signal arm?? F-n ridiculous. (pissed)

Hope that gets you started. If not, get a light bulb repair kit at Wal-Mart for $19.95 maybe the bulbs need fluid?

(Just joking there is no such thing as a light bulb repair kit):D

Good luck!

Peace!(rei)

Thanks SGT_OKINAWA. The relay sounds like the first thing I will check. Then go from the wiring etc... The dealership would be the last place I'll go to. Labour rates and parts costs are insane.
