FMIC is Done!!!

Just as the topic says. Sorry for those of you that have been waiting. I got the car back Friday afternoon, but didn't want to say anything until the meet was over yesterday. It's an NPR front mount intercooler, Greddy Type S Bov, removed stock cooler and stock fans, replaced with SlimLine 16" fan and silver powder coated piping to match the strut bar. I will take some pics today. So someone PM me or email me there info, where I can send them to someone to post up on here. If there is enough demand for this kit, my proto-type kit will be sent to a mandrell bender and should be 3 pieces for the kit I think. So let me know who all wants this kit and we will get started on it...Later,

How does it sound/perform? Do you have any problems with stalling with that open atmosphere BOV? I disconnected the recirculator on the stock one as a test and it almost stalled just idling.

Do you plan on making a version with port for recirculating the BOV air? Also, what sort of price range are we talking about for a kit with FMIC and all the piping? If it's a resonable range, you could probably sell a bunch of them, including one to me ;)

Hello MSP'ers. I want to introduce myself, my name is Jeff Kipe and I'm the owner of Epik Motorsports in Myrtle Beach, SC. A few weeks ago, 03speedLSD contacted me and asked if I could fabricate a frontmount intercooler system for his '03 MSP. The requirements were, minimal, if any, cutting to retain factory like fit and the ability to take the car back to stock if necessary, as well as the obvious increase in performance. The result of our week's work prior to the Charlotte, NC meet on the 10th is what you see here.

Now, on to your questions. The reason that the stock bypass valve caused the car to stall is that it remains open at idle, due to the fact that it is recirculated. As soon as you removed the connecting hose from the stock bypass valve back in to the intake after the MAF there was a huge air leak created. This is not the case with a GReddy Type S BOV as long as it is properly adjusted. The spring in the GReddy bov is much stronger, as well as the fact that it is not designed to remain open, therefore no air leak and no stalling.

As far as performance, Chris has dyno'd his MSP before the intercooler system, and will be heading back to the dyno soon to find out how successful this upgrade has been. I'll be sure to get the dyno sheets and post them back to back.

So, let me know if you like the looks of the kit, especially those that had an opportunity to see it in person at the Charlotte Meet on Saturday. I'm looking for feedback on if you would like to see this kit reproduced. Feel free to e-mail me privately, or AIM me at the information in my profile.

Thanks, Jeff Kipe

That is sick!!!

I have the ww front bumper on my car will the intercooler fit with this bumper? Also I have the joe p xz mbc installed, Will this work with this setup. Thanks

Hey 03SpeedLSD...where did you get that exhaust? Is it custom, or do they make a cat back for MSP's now? Thanks!!

This intercooler has only been fit on the stock MSP front bumper. I would guess that the WingsWest would actually have more room behind it, so it would be a "yes". However, depending on the depth of the mouth in the WW bumper cover minor trimming could be possible to the back of it.

The only modification need to the stock bumper cover was to cut off the bottom of the bumper cover that normally mounted under the car with 2 10mm bolts. We just cut it right along the back of the factory front splitter and it fit perfectly over the intercooler. The front mounted intercooler is angled back as well so it is inline with the grille.

As far as your question about the boost controller, I can only say yes there too. In fact, a front mounted intercooler that lowers the charge air temps even more than the factory bread box sized intercooler will only make your Joe P even more effective.

Everything looks good except for the fact that you thanked the wrong guy! Hehehe. Nice set up!

pricing has not been determined, or at least finalized, yet.

This kit was created to judge interest in more of them. The # of MSP owners that would like to buy the kit will be the deciding factor.

The install on 03 SpeedLSD's car included a GReddy bov that he had previously bought, but on future kits we will weld on any flange you choose to your piping. We have access to GReddy, Blitz, Turbo XS, and HKS by special order. Also included in the kit is a SlimLine fan to replace the stock 2 fans. This fan cools much better than the stock units and also takes up much less space.
