FMIC guys in here

Well i will be doing my own fmic as soon as it gets here. I bought the i/c and piping off ebay(no flaming). I figured if nothing else the fmic would be better than the stock smic, and in the future i will probably upgrade, but atleast i will have the piping already in place. the overall dimensions of it are 27x5.5x2.5, comparable to some of the ic's included in the kits. I will be using 2.5" piping.

Now here is my favor of ya'll: Pic's of your setups in detail if possible. I have searched and gotten a pretty good idea of how to route the piping but the more the merrier. I dont care if it's your own custom fmic or a kit(hiboost, MAM, begi, etc). Bumper off pics, hot side routing(what i'm worried about), cold side, whatever you've got.

Also have 2 questions:
1) Has anyone tried routing the hot side going in the place of the smic or is it even possible?
2) Guys routing the hot side thru the washer resovoir: Did you relocate the resovoir? Please explain what you did.

Sorry for the demanding of the pics and the questions, but i want to be as prepared/informed as i can be. Thanks very much in advance!

i don't have any pics handy, but since it seems to be hard to come by pics of the MAM setup, i'll try to describe it for you....

On the hot side, it comes directly up from the turbo, does a 180 and heads back down to the left of it. once it gets to about the bottom of the radiator, it heads straight toward the left side quarter panel, at which point it connects to another piece which goes through some of the splashgaurd and around the tow hook, connecting up to the IC inlet. On the other side, coming off the IC it heads downwards and towards the back of the car to make it around a metal piece, then heads upwards, connecting to a new pipe in the space where the filter for a CAI would be, up through that hole, around the battery and to the TB. I dunno if that helps any, but i'd figure it can't hurt to throw it out there.
 
03.5silvermsp--- where are the endtanks on your IC core?? IE, do they stick out the sides, or the back, or some combination thereof?? That will definitely make a difference in which routing option is the most practical for you... with the MAM the endtanks stuck out the sides, but with AlexBs they're on the back, so it nessesitates different routing.

Very good point. The location of the endtanks will affect the way you can route your piping.

I like it alot. Very happy with how it turned out.I love the TurboXS BOV. I have been meaning to get some video of it in action but have been working alot and it has been raining alot here lately. I will see what I can do.
 
Thanks very much everyone. the tanks/inlets are parallel with the ic, unlike the MAM that's perpendicular. Shouldnt it be possible to route the same way as the MAM and AlexB if i use 90* elbows? just a thought. Thanks for the detailed pics Alexb, they're greatly appreciated. Does anyone have pics of routing with an intercooler with the endtanks parallel with the ic? Thanks again
 
Oh and btw, mine will be nothing close to alexb's, that setup has sex written all over it. I'm going to try to make mine as clean/neat as possible, but it will not compare to his for sure. Props to you alexb!

unless i'm misunderstanding what you're saying, the MAM IC DOES have the entanks parallel.... they're not like the core that AlexB has. I'll see if i can get some pics for you.
 
Ideally I'd like to have the same endtanks as the perrin or Alex's IC. I like the fact that the end-tanks point back towards the car, since routing is most likely more simple. I think the 90 deg elbows would work, but honestly, get some damn good clamps on there and tight. The most pressure coming out of the IC is right after the air exits the core, so I would assume it would be the part most likely to blow off. As for the ebay IC, I have the same opinion you do...hell for $200 something bucks it's better than stock. Why not try it out. If it sucks, sell it.
 
Thanks for the clarification :). In that case i'd like to see some pics of how it's routed. I'm trying to do the least amount of cutting possible(dont really want to do any, but may have to. My car only has 23k miles on it and i hate the idea of hacking. Keep the pics/advise coming guys. Thanks
 
with the mam kit the only cutting is on the splashgaurd stuff. Of course, it may be hard to get the same exact routing without specifically made pipes. I'll try to get some pics by this weekend...

sorry man, the only digi camera i have access to isn't here right now.... but i realized that there used to be a great install thread for the MAM kit in their forum put up by 505zoom, it had lots of pictures, you might try contacting him to see if he still has those pics. A few other members i can recall right off that have the MAM kit are boomergt and rush.
