Exhaust Piping/muffler

Ok,

I have given into the exhaust issue. I realize that even though my currect system (Bosal 2.25 stainless steel) is great, but just not the best choice for turbo. I ordered this before I even knew BEGI existed.

My question is this: If I get the piping replaced with custom bent 3 inch piping will I NEED a new muffler? I realize that they could do some welding to get everyhting to fit right as far as flanges go... But I'd like to sell the Bosal system as a whole system and don't want them to cut any thing just to re-use the flanges.

If it would be a better idea to go ahead and get a different muffler to use with the new 3 inch piping-what should I get? What's out there that would fit with our hanger locations?

If you want to do a full custom setup and dont like that honda bumble bee sound, then you may want to consider the HKS muffler. Very deep and quite, with a beautifull stainless can.

Yeah, definitely don't want the bumble bee sound. The sound of the bosal I currently have is great. VERY low sounding almost like a V6.

Is there a certain HKS muffler?

Anyone have any other mufflers that they think sound good? I would have to go with the universal right?

I highly recomened the Apexi N1, awesome sound...not raspy at all, very deep tone. I keep promising sound bites, so i think ima steal the laptop from work and grab a few tonight on my way to class.

I HIGHLY recommend Magnaflow race series for 3 inch...you wont be dissapointed with the sound.

Hey Greddy-which magnaflow race series muffler? There are a million. And where did you order it?

So far we have one vote for HKS, one APEXI and one Magnaflow.

Well... thats up to your tase....they all sound pretty much the same if you go with a 3 inch inlet....I got mine from my muffler guy...but they are avab. all over the net...

I've got it its just sittin in the box waiting. I'm a little broke right now to get it put on. I plan on going with a 3" custom setup from the primary cat - back w/ about 1 foot of resonator where the 2nd cat is.

I have had both the apexi n-i and HKS on my car and the HKS muffles the sound more and gives a deeper growl. Kinda like a supra or something. The n-1 is higher pitched and is a bit raspy on start up without cats

Well since i recorded the bites in wav format and i just found out that the board doesnt accept wav's...im sure which way to go, i can do mp3's but can't do midi's.

Do you suggest I get a resonator with my setup? I ask you this since you have the HKS muffler and 3 inch piping as well.

My HKS should be here Monday, then off to Prodyno to get the piping fitted and put on.

For some reason BEGI won't get back to me on the off road pipe request. I've emailed Corky, Stephanie and even left a message. It's been three weeks almost! ( I don't want to be annoying, cause I'm sure they'll get back to me eventually but when it comes to my car-everything is NOW NOW NOW. eek:

Yes I am running a resonator on my setup and highly reccomend it. Makes for a quite and deep sounding system

Im definitly gonna need an exhaust within the next few months, i plan on boosted by late march. i will be talkin with you soon. Good Luck with the buisness. when the warm weather comes, off come the snow tires and on comes the boost!!! will u have the FM IC set up by then. i think ur site said dec.

Thank you for the kind words. I am greatful that things are going well. We actually have the FMIC jigged up. We have a one off set, we are just sending the pipes to the foundry so they can mass produce them for us. So the FMIC is available but will be hand made vs in late December when we will have them in quantity.
They will also use a PWR australian made intercooler with polished endtanks. This is an extremely efficient unit that has an extremely low pressure drop and sports a nice intimidating look when you are rollin around Here is the intercooler mounted on our rex

One word of warning - we recently tested a 3" Magnaflow muffler. It was more restrictive than our usual 2.5" setups. Judging by the sound, you'd probably want a resonator in there.

Looking under a Protege last week, it looks like it'll be possible to make a between-cat pipe that will simply bolt in to place. It would mean you could keep both cats (no CEL problems) but get rid of a bad restriction. I'm going to pull the pipe off this week to have a look.
