Well here is that clip that I've been saying I was going to post one of these days. This is one of those days! Listen carefully as my rod snaps off of my piston and buzz saws my block to s***!

8 lbs of boost with a T3/T4 and just a FMU as fuel management might not be a good combination! Let me know if you can see the link or not. Enjoy!

You need to be a member of the site in order to see the videos I think. Its free to join etc.

I'm downloading it now and if you want put it on my space, think I have enough for a 11meg file. Might be about 20 minutes or so, the download is little slow right now.

:'( ...must have been a similar feeling to that of speeding and seeing flashing cop lights in your rear.

so why did it blow? i mean i am thinking of turbo still (its looming in teh back of my head still) but i mean if this is gonna happen then forget it. but what waas the problem? is it cuz of the boost psi? or just a poor install?

A properly engineered turbo system is safe and reliable, the problem with pro 5's system was his fuel managment for the turbo and hp output he was running

then terry if i may call u that.
what is the safe amount of boost to run with an intercooled system with wastegates and BOV and a larger downpipe with full exhaust?
with say ur kit

That video totally gave me the chills.....
Sad to hear the protege dying :(
Hope things work out for you.

Thanks REMillers! Hahahaha! Big Ass Smoke! That was my co pilot (my wife) who was video taping the whole thing and who was saying the now infamous words "Big Ass Smoke!" Even that night when we towed my car home and all of my crew was with me at the time, we watched the tape, and as soon as she started saying "Big Ass Smoke, Big Ass Smoke David, Big Ass Smoke, Big Ass Smoke!" we all started cracking up! It was that little bit of laughter that kept my spirits up. I wanted to throw a stick of dynamite in the car and really blow it up but because of my wife, she talked me into rebuilding my car and making it stronger and faster!!! Damn I love that woman!!!:)

Like me and Terry were talking about when I blew my motor, we think it was a combination of things. I was running 8lbs of boost, it was a chilly night, I had a full load (4 adults) in the car, and I was in 5th gear. 8lbs from a T3/T4 might be too much for a 12:1 FMU. Due to the chilly air, the charged air was more dense and I may have had a little of boost creep that I didn't see due to the situation (racing:rolleyes: ). The extra load I had in my car at the time and going into 5th gear which is the most load you can put on your engine might have done my engine in!

It's all good now though. I have replaced my engine and still kicking ass! I'm only running 4lbs right now and will probably keep it there until I either build up my bottom end or get the Microtech stand alone! Which ever comes first. I will be posting more clips later like my first time down the 1/4 mile with the turbo and what ever else might come to my mind.

Laters!!

well i see.
now this will cause i problem in my view for us canucks.
since first off my city gets cold very cold...... now if i slap on the stage 2 Spoolin turbo kit with intercooler, BOV, Wastegates, TT and larger exhaust piping.... will i also see that problem.
cuz the air here gets freezing.
and plus i wanna run 6psi minimum.

Our issue is the fuel since the car pulls fuel out of the rail, the stock ECU is a nightmare and is causing knock for many people. With proper fuel the turbo should not harm anything even with a full car on a cold night.

hmmm.. I'm wondering how it happened as well. I only have an FMU, and am running 8.5 psi with no prob.... Is it the difference in the types of FPR? Or the fact I'm running a mix of 101 and 91 gas?

I would be willing to bet its the FM voltage clamp. Without it 30% of the fuel the FMU attempts to send the car is just pulled away.

Go here!

FM Voltage clamp

but I really think if you want to be safe- go with the Microtech & larger injectors...

After I installed the clamp- I saw a small difference in the 'ruberband' effect I felt when eccelerating, but I still heard ping.

what is the safe amount of boost to run with an intercooled system with wastegates and BOV and a larger downpipe with full exhaust?
Depends on location, fuel used, altitude, turbo size ect. To be on the safe side 5-7psi intercooled with an FMU should be fine.
Our kits are designed for those boost levels depending on the above factors. Fuel is everything. Just by using 103 octane you can boost on the average motor 4-6 more psi safley. And 116 octane will allow for 10 psi more of boost.

No you will not you will just have to run 12:1 FMU and utilze the t3 with the kit. You will not be boost more than 6-6.5 psi however and you will mot be able to utilize a bigger turbo such as a t3/t4.

Yes a voltage clamp is a good idea, however this is not why PRO5's motor went south. The car was at WOT when this happned. The ecu only pulls out fuel at partial throttle not WOT.
