Hello I'm new to the forum and to the protege 5. I found her in a snow bank and I'm trying to get her back on the road. The ebrake light on the dash will not turn off I have checked the switch in the center console and it is not touching when brake is off. Also the brake fluid level is full I have unplugged the censor for it and still the light is on. If any one could help it would much appreciated

could be a failed master cylinder or a failed mechanical piece to the system, may have been part of the crash. does it have abs or do you know?

It's only the fluid level sensor, P-brake switch or their wiring that will set off only the brake light.

,... Unless your ABS head unit is fried (don't worry it's only $1,200 for a new one)

I would try to disconnect the P-brake switch then check for a shorted wire,... maybe run new wire for the two switches (check that HU PID stuff too)

What do you mean by "not touching" ?? Is the switch switching when the handle is fully released ??

EDIT: I went out and looked at my switch and if it's not touching, the light should be off,... Try connecting an ohmmeter across the switch (with the ignition off) and see if it switches or is always grounded.

I live in Ontario too,... I didn't know we were allowed to simply "find" cars ,... Is that what you told the MTO ??

Do your daytime running lights (DRL) shut off when you pull the P-brake handle ??

If they do then your switch is working properly and the short is somewhere else.

Lol, the previous owner buried it with snow in her driveway so it sat under the snow all winter and there was no crash. Anyways the dtr lights do go out when parking break is engaged. The abs light is also on so could it be the censor on the wheels?

That's quite a bit different,...

Their is a procedure to get the codes for the brake system with a jumper wire under the hood,... You'll have to do your homework,... it tells you what sensor is bad,...

Hey I finally got around to reading the codes but now I can't find a list of what the codes are.
If someone has a link to them it would be great I found them once but can't find them now
