So I was driving home from school on a pretty busy 3-4 lane road during relatively heavy congestion. I was in the left lane and moving about 40 mph. Well there was a new left turn lane coming up(for a turn into a apartment complex) and a long line of cars in that lane that was almost sticking out into the lane I was in. As soon as I cleared the intersection between the two, a girl pulls out about 15 yards in front of me (from the left turn lane)and stalls her car.
At this point I had 2 options that occured to me in that split second. There was a car in my blind spot (basically his front end at my trunk area) in the lane to the right that I saw.
Option #1 was to slam on the brakes, let the car to my right pass before merging over and pray the car behind him would slam on his brakes / etc. There was NO way I could have stopped in my lane without hitting the stalled car in front of me.
Option #2 was to . . . "go for it." I dropped the car into 2nd and floored it in front of the car to my right and merged into his lane. It was so close and I merged so fast that I felt my back end coming around. Thankfully as soon as I felt that I also felt the DSC jump in and immediately straighten the car out. If I would have had dsc off my back end would have slid into the stalled car and caused a multi car collision.
Anyway that was a pretty scary experience and im pretty lucky I am not posting crash pics / parting out. Then again if that would have happened I would be getting an EVO
.
Glad I took the aggressive maneuver this time but that was extremely close. I knew it was the only chance. Thank god my IC was cool and not heat soaked or I wouldn't have gone anywhere!
