I went over to Louisville to check out 2010 Mazdas and decided to drive a 2.5L CX-7 for the hell of it. I almost bought the 2.3L turbo 2009 instead of our 5, but was terrified of the horror stories about the turbo being semi-junk, and also the hideous gas mileage. I found the idea of having the 2.5L in the 6 and the Ford Fusion pretty interesting, mainly due to MPGs.
First of all, the chassis and interior have been tightened up considerably. It took nasty potholes like a dream. But the coolest thing about the CX-7 is the engine. It had plenty of pep, especially if you are OK with the 5's power. The power-to-weight ratio is less than 22 LB/HP, which is just a little bit better than the 5 actually. The car was quiet and seemed to have excellent fit and finish. I came away very impressed. Amazingly, the sales manager offered me $15K for my Focus with a $12.5K Kelley Blue Book trade-in value. I'm thinking about pulling a bait and switch scam on them and after I get them to re-quote that trade price tell them that I want a 3 5-door instead. LOL! I may actually do it. Funny thing is that I want a Copper Mica SV model, which is the same color as our 5. Would that be like psycho weird or what? Would my neighbors be scared of me?
