So i'm looking to build a drift car something unique, and i'm thinking either early evo 1-3 or protege

this is what i'd have in mind

find a protege 2001 shell which there are plenty here for sale pretty cheap

the spec would be

power/drivetrain
- 13b single or twin turbo engine stock 255hp enough power to drift this little light weight
- rx7 5 speed
- r180 rear diff

could look like this, though i wouldn't do a tube frame for the front

for the main thing the rear subframe, probably go with a custom tube frame, something along the lines of this

you might say hey that looks like it's made for protege, but it's not it's subaru so i might try and mod a stock subaru/protege subframe together but tube frame would be less hassle

for rear diff i'd probably go for something stockish that could withstand the power of 255hp, and i'm thinking the subaru sti r180 rear diff, as i'll be using impreza knucles/spindles so to keep stock axles or improved axles from the driveshaft shop

good for 500hp and i'd be looking to get 300hp out of the stock 13b engine like i said no need for 500hp

R200 from 240SX can handle 5-600 ft-lb, R230 around 700 ft-lb

the big work to do will be fitting engine, custom drive tunnel fuel cell as to make more room for rwd setup

most of the handling will need to add more lock if the current lock isn't enough (have to check), finding more grip for the rear in toe-in adjustable, spring rates

so why be different, for badass style points for sure plus the wtf look on people's faces, plus i could easily have one suspension setup for drift and one for track so multi-purpose setup

why the 13b? well i want to stay loyal to mazda, why not the mx-5 engine it's a mazda? well i really would only use the 13b engine if i did this sorry

im a rhd guy in a lhd country too bad, i've been drivng rhd for the past 5 years now and i hate lhd so i'd eventually swap rhd with a front clip from japan or Australia

so lemme know what you think it's just a setup idea, most work would be done by me a home bread mechanic ;) garage tuners style like most of us

and i know most of you will think this is stupid but wtv im looking to build a drift car in the next 2 years, and well i don't just want to go out and buy a s13-s14 and do like everyone else

thanks for reading commenting and ya everyone's got their opinion so i wont be insulted, have a good one
