Did they sneak in some VW parts or what?

Today when I came back to work from lunch I locked my car with the remote as usual and turned to walk away. Something not right caught my eye so I turned around and sway my parking lights were on. Didn't remember turning them on, but it was a rainy day and I thought I must have. Opened the door and the continuous tone that says you left your lights on was playing.

Here's the punchline. My lights were not turned on !!!

I called my dealer service and the service manager knew what I was talking about immeditately. He attributed it to a 'control module'.

I have 3000 miles on the car. I though our electrical system was fine except for a slightly weak alternator. Now I wonder if we are going to have VW'esque problems.

When I got home after work the problem was gone. Now I have to watch for it in case it happens again and I end up having to catch my car in gear to get home.

The good news is that I needed to get my 3000 mile service anyway and couldn't schedule it any time but when the MazdaSpeed technician was in. I didn't even have to ask to make sure they didn't just have a regular guy do the work. I am really happy with my dealer.

Anybody else have similar electrical problems?

im soon to be 3k miles and dont have anything like that, and nobody else here AFAIK does either, heh, maybe a one time thing?

That is a problem that I have seen other people post about -- at least a handful of different people. The fix for them was to get the "security system module" replaced. The fact is, the module is a piece of junk and many people have replaced it with an aftermarket one. Other problems people have had with it is that it is either WAY to sensitive on the least-sensitive setting or it's not nearly sensitive ENOUGH on the most sensitive setting.

Haven't had any problems with mine though (yet).

Yeah, I'm not too impressed with the alarm. I can push down on my bumper and rock the car (man is our suspension tight though) and the alarm doesn't go off. Then I park it at work and it honks at every motorcycle and truck that passes it.

I guess the moral is that if you want to steal an MSP, go ahead and beat on the car, just don't make any loud noises.

LOL!

Yeah personally, being in Wisconsin, I don't really need an alarm for much --- too bad they couldn't have used that money to put cruise on it instead. I'm sure most other people would rather have cruise than an alarm system too...although the alarm is probably cheaper.

I've had the security "brain" replaced once before and it just started doing it again tonight. Time for replacement number two.

Ha ha! Ah yes, I should have remembered to refer the problem to t3ase --- I believe he has experienced first hand every single problem so far with the MSP. If you ever have a question about a problem, ask him and he's probably had it already! I'm not laughing at him because we're all probably in line behind him.

actually........................
most of our electrical system was made by.....u guessed it......mitsubishi!
just look at your fuse cover, and behold - mitsu sign.

now i know mitsu's are not known for their exceptional electrical knowledge, so i wonder.

damn mechanics at a local race shop laughed for 30 minutes after making this discovery.

Hahaha... Thanks.

Yeah, I'll type up my list once I get it back from my old dealership. It's huge...

Did you have the exact same problem as me? Lights staying on, that is?

Maybe they'll just let me trade my alarm in for a MazdaSpeed hat or something.

Yeah, the parking lights remained on, even though they clearly were not on. If it does it again, it'll be the third time and I'll talk to a lawyer about the lemon law. Granted it's just the alarm, but I do have a very long list of problems with my car. I'll post them tomorrow when I get back from the dealership.
