I know I've seen the symptoms of blown LSDs on here, tried to search but I keep getting an error.

I was backing out of a parking lot, everything seemed normal until I tried to put the tranny into 1st, it would not budge, no matter what. I shut the car off, put it into reverse and pulled it into another parking place. The clutch pedal sometimes falls to the floor with very little resistance and doesn't return to it's resting position. I haven't tried to drive it, only revered into a spot, and the clutch engagement was VERY quick, barely had to raise the pedal, and it FLEW backwards. Sometimes it will very lightly and quietly grind if I leave it in gear w/ the clutch in.
Does this sound like a LSD problem or something else?

I drove back to the MSP and it drove perfectly so long as I manually pulled the clutch up with my foot, if I did this it would shift though all gears perfectly (minus the almost instant clutch engagement) after pulling back in I noticed what looked to be a HUGE puddle of oil, smelled it and it was brake fluid...PERFECT. This would explain why my brake fluid reservoir went from crystal clear to doodoo brown over night. So I'm thinking it's just a busted clutch line or slave cylinder, the top drivers side of the tranny is soaked.
Do you guys agree, sound like a broken clutch line? Also, where do you recommend getting lines from. And is replacing the lines the same as replacing brake lines, screw off and screw on?

It's a leak forsure. Air had to of got in the lines, which is why the clutch pedal wont return. Your diff did not blow. You wouldn't be able to go no where.

Ya my clutch line exploded a while back. Go for a stainless steel clutch line if u replace it
 
Thanks guys. Defiantly glad to hear that. Any recommendations where to get a line from, will a local parts store have it? Is it called something other than clutch line?
 
If you want oem go rock auto, otherwise go with corksport. I believe they still car the clutch line for the protege

I was able to drive my car with a broke diff. YES when i remove the diff it came apart in my hand. Grant it a 50cc scooter would beat me in a race but the car was moveable and was able to get upto speed.

goto the dealership.. its like 15 bucks for the line and your local parts store will not have it in stock.
 
I called the dealership and they said it'll be $22.69.
I also checked on eBay and I found SS lines for about $7.00 more. Would it be worth going with the SS?

Some times its cheaper at the dealer and your dealership is ripping you off bro. Its still 15 and some change at mine with them ordering it. BTW if you never support the dealerships, mazda would be no more. I never support them for labor but some times the parts can be reasonable. However more times then not they are way over priced.
 
I usually always call to check for parts, but most of the time they are way marked up, and that's not right. If they do happen to have parts at a decent price I'll buy from them but that is rare that they have comparable prices. I was actually surprised with the part being less than $30, I wouldn't have surprised me if they were asking $60-$70+.

on another note, is the clutch line basically screw off/screw on?

yes and no.. it will need to be bleed but other then that yes... just like a brake like
 
Ive never bled a completely empty clutch line, the line has been off for about 2-days so they are more than likely completely empty (especially the clutch hose, since it is new). There is still fluid in the reservoir. So after I attached the new hose I tried to pump the clutch to build up fluid but it would't the clutch just falls to the floor, I pumped for about 5 min with the car on and still no luck. Like I said, I've never bled a new line so do I still need to keep pumping until it builds pressure or do I need to crack open the bleed valve every time I push down the clutch just like normal?

EDIT: I didn't fill the reservoir to the top with fluid yet, could that keep fluid from going through?
