cranking up the booostt

The option with ssafc, is it required that I must have a wideban for tuning or can I just run with the maps given in the ssafc thread?

if you like playing Russian Roulette with your motor, by all means trying tuning without a wideband. It's impossible to tune anything without monitoring AFR. You can load a map from the afc thread, but don't rely on it to keep your motor together. One map may work for one car and it may blow up another car.

Just read a bunch of older posts, i thought i could get away without the o2 seeing the ssafc library has a map for exactly the mod i have. I just have a fmic and CAI. Suppose the fmicmap could work?? I see where everyones coming from tho, just that I won't have a wideban soon.

Why ask questions if you're going to ignore those of us who know what we're talking about? You have stated yourself you're new to this... Just do what you want since you don't want to listen to us.

Like Spiced said, every car is different. What works for one car, can send the rod through the block of another. I know you don't want that mod

Well, with all the info you have so far, it doesn't look like you are going to change your mind. Please don't come back upset if your engine blows. if you insist on getting it, you may be able to slide by with the stock supermap, but I wouldn't get boost happy until you can get a wideband. It should really be the other way around though...wideband and then ssafc. Good luck...and Im not just saying that. You have a lot to learn my friend. We are trying to keep you from making an expensive mistake.

Im taking everyones consideration, i was just saying i thought i could. Knowing that that I'll be driving a time bomb. Ill wait till i get the o2 first.

Forget about the piggyback for the moment and get rid of your factory piping with the catalyst. That is the choke point of the factory exhaust, not the muffler. Make sure you use a non fouler to thread the 2nd O2 into or you will get a CEL. But that CEL will not affect performance, its just an annoyance. And that will not hurt your MPG's unless you start driving like a jackass all of the time. I can get 34 MPG's plus on the highway being catless. Have never had less than 25 combined driving.

What does your boost guage show that your psi is now?

I also thought of going catless as its the most restrictive part. Boost lvl reading at 6psi after it settles from the peak of 7psi.

Everyone else who are running catless, do you guys have the same experience as BOOSTR? I'd imagine your engine will use more fuel cuz its reading more flow. Is this corrected with the ssafc?? This would be a question for BOOSTR.

There are nearly 10 years of threads on this subject. Search and you will find all of your answers and guidance and suggested maps for tuning along with the pros and cons of each option. Blowing your engine IMO has a lot more to do with the way you drive and load your engine over time. Some claim to blow them when not even in boost. Others admit to flooring it in 5th for a long stretch. And many in between. My favorites have always been the ones to never admit doing anything out of the ordinary and then coming on here and bashing the MSP for being a POS. This was more common back in the early years.

What kind of mods if any do you have on your car now and what is the mileage. If you are not the original owner than cranking up the boost even with supporting mods on a high mileage and unhealthy engine is not too bright.

+1 I beat on mine and in all honestly should of already blown my motor by now but she keep chuggin without much issue.

I have been catless almost since I have had the car as my exhaust was my first mod. Did the non fouler trick and have been fine ever since. I have driven my car from TX to SC and back three times with no complaints at all for my mpg.

+2, my car sees a fair amount of boost on a daily basis creeping up on a little over 90,000 miles. Once I get the car running with the 505 intake manifold and PEP downpipe, I am going to beat the living s*** out of it(that is if the manifold doesn't change my tune that much)...lol. Especially after how long my car has been down.

Same here. Catless since forever with the same nonfouler, no engine management. Get 25mpg+ in the city and over 30mpg on the hwy

+3 Car has over 95k miles, is being daily driven at this point and still runs perfect. Any issues I've had with this car were issues I caused directly (AC leak for example)

I also thought of going catless as its the most restrictive part. Boost lvl reading at 6psi after it settles from the peak of 7psi.

The sensor that is threaded into the Calloway exhaust manifold is the oxygen sensor that impacts performance and mpgs. The 2nd sensor that I am referring is only there to tell the pcm about the warmup threshold of the catalyst. It does nothing that impacts performance or mpgs. So I hope that clears that up for you.

And your boost psi is fine. So if you uncork the exhaust bottle neck you should feel a little more pep.

I use the pcm only. I have dual stage boost controller currently set at my stock psi of 6.9 and 10. 94K plus miles. Original owner, engine, LSD, clutch, WGA, and all hoses but the vacuum line to my DSBC. Started adding my mods right after the flash back in 2003. My only problems have been with a few of my aftermarket parts choices but nothing major.
