Considering P5 purchase...

Considering a P5 for the next car... inexpensive fun to drive hatch back is a hard thing to pass up.

Wondering about the lack of power though... and looking for advice on small hp gains to give it a little extra kick, no turbo or NOS.

Thinking more about K&N, cat-back, timing bump, chip, etc. How much hp gain potential do these engine mods have?

Any links to websites concerning such issues or merchants selling them would be greatly appreciated.

I can be reached at scsctmcm@inter.net

Thanks... Steve

Yes, the five speed would be mandatory... found some websites, but surely there are more that I am missing on the P5. Just hoping the little car could muster around 30 more hp with the listed mods...

BTW... email address was a little off...

Horse power is overrated. Cars can be fun to drive without it. The MP5 is proof of that.

werd, TWISTYS...you can probably get a good 10 or 15 with intake and a good exhaust. if theres ever a real chip that might fee up another 10

i really wish we had aftermarket ecu's. that would be awesome. my friend's jetta is pushing 200whp off his vr6 from a chip mod, intake, and remus exhaust. the thing is sweeeet. too bad it has electrical problems. he had to bring it in cause his climate controls weren't working. damn mazda engineers for being smart.

Oh first of all, you WILL NOT more than 10 to the wheels, and that's being optimistic. The K&N will give you 1whp if your lucky, usually it just helps throttle response. I personaly went with an intake off e-bay for like $40 and couldn't be happier with it.
Next cat-back-This is where you would get the most gain from what you listed. There are several manufacturers, or you can have on cunsom made, the choice is yours.
Timing bump, impossible in our cars, the ECU constantly controls timing, no way (yet) to control it.
Chip-noone really makes on that works on our cars due to our ecu using pre-determined feul maps at WOT. I't being worked on though, shouldn't be too much longer 'till something is out.

Hope that helps:D

(EDIT): Almos forgot, the biggest gains via N/A right now appear to be the FS-ZE intake cam and the Mazdaspeed Exhaust cam. (What I'm planning on doing with my tax refund). Might want to check them out.
