Clutch Pedal Studder/Loud Clicking

Ok, so driving home from work, I noticed my car was stuttering a bit in boost. It does this occasionally but this time it happened anytime i hit the throttle 3/4 or more. After 2 or three times i started grandma driving it the rest of the way home. Later, I hit the gas just to accelerate normally and I get a big stutter and the clutch pedal starts shaking violently, and the engine starts making a loud ticking noise. I pull to the side of the road and pop the hood, cant see anything, but the engine is still ticking loudly.

The clutch pedal was still springy and the engine seemed to be running fine aside from the noise, so I attempt to drive home. The car behaves normally the rest of the way home beside the shaking clutch pedal and loud click/ticking noise. I didnt dare enter boost but climbing hills i did hear the reassuring sound of the bov, so i was building pressure. Clutch engages/disengages without any slipping.

Not sure what is going on, anyone have anything similar happen to them?

Its too late to call the dealers service dept. Ill call first thing tomorrow.

Any thoughts?

Don't know why it is clicking or studder, but you might want to take out the CAI and BOV before taking her to the dealer. Studder could be form the CAI. Double check the vacuum connections, is air filter dirty?, BOV connection, are you using 91-93 octane?.... these are just maybe, someone else can chime in.

Yeah, service dept is backed up until weds, so im going to take this weekend to check over everything.

Starting to consider putting her back to stock for good.

Not too sure yet.

always run 93 by the way.

Ok back from the dealership.

They have never heard a sound like that on a 6 or speed6 before. They are going to pull the tranny. Until then it looks like I will be driving a 2007 silver mazda5.

Make sure you have them perform the clutch TSB while they have it!

hmmm, i didnt think of that.

Ill have to call monday and see how far they got into it.

EDIT - They are replacing the clutch for me anyway, cause they found the clutch fingers to be causing the problem.

UPDATE:

They replaced my entire clutch assembly. They started the car up and the fluttering in the pedal is gone, but the ticking is still coming from the engine. They spoke with mazda engineers about it and the engineers said replace the engine and ship the current engine to them to research the root cause. They are giving me one of the 2 remaining 2.3 MZR-T's in the states.

Summary - 8K miles on the car and I am getting a new clutch and a new engine. Not sure if thats a good thing or a bad thing yet.

If it fixes the problem it is a good thing. It would have been better to never happen but you have no control over that. At least they are admitting fault and taking care of you.

this might be stupid but have they checked the oil?

Perhaps they might find some metal filaments in the oil filter......the ticking sounds like it may be a problem with a piston head/cam shaft........something in that general area.......
