mass insurance is just retarded, no ifs ands or buts about it. pricing isn't competitive because it's all government regulated so you all pay pretty much what the government wants you to pay, not what the insurance company has determined is appropriate for you to pay. that's why lots of companies don't even do business in mass, there's no market there for them to make money

they are talking about a 18% cut after next year which will be great!

you have 2 cars though. do you have 1 of them listed as a pleasure car? that would save you a good chunk. i would list the MSP as a pleasure car @<10000 miles per year (since you don't drive it during winter) and list the truck as your daily driver. you should also suspend insurance on your MSP for winter

I do list the MSP as a pleasure car but let me tell you, I do have 2 cars, and thats another gripe I have with the insurance industry.

If I am one driver, with 2 cars, I cannot possibly drive 2 cars at the same time, therefore my rate should be that of the more expensive car to insure....and if neccesary plus SOME NEGLIGIBLE amount to cover the frequency with which cars parked at one's home are damaged and insurance claims are filed on them.....im sure it happens but im also sure that is a TINY %age of the normal premium on a car you insure.

does AAA do their own insurance or do they act as agents to help find you insurance?

last year i paid 1497 for the year for car and homeowners insurance. Got in one fender bender (came with the requisite ticket for following too close...no points on my license) and the bill they just sent me was for 4300.

AAA is an agency. i believe they only have a couple of companies that they quote for. travelers is one of them.

i detest ins co...i just had another run in with them...i hate them more(blarf)

If you have any military in your immediate family, go for USAA. They are by far the best I have ever dealt with, on any level. $2100 / year for my 8, my wife's 5, $0 comprehensive deductible, $250 collision deductible, and me with >10 tickets over my life (most in the first 2 years, 1 in last 3 years), wife with 3 tickets, 1 minor accident. Yeah the old tickets are not 'legally' considered since they are off the record, but I would be stupid to think that they still aren't acknowledged by the insurance company i have had the entire time :)

And the SUV vs Sports car comparison is looking at the rates wrong. yes, SUVs have more accidents than Sports cars, but generally, due to their higher weight, more of the energy from the collision is transmitted to the other smaller vehicle, decreasing the repair costs of the SUV and generally totalling the other car. Sports cars cost more to fix than SUVs.

When I went from my P5 to my 8, my rates only went up ~$200 a year. The shifts were
- Comprehensive dropped significantly (lower theft rate)
- Personal Injury dropped (improved safety dynamics)
- Collision raised significantly (higher cost of repair / replacement)

I know my collision didn't go up from driving a "sports car", because the value and % of discount due to the driver attributes all improved.

So yeah, insurance can suck, but I have good news....

hehe...

my car got pelleted by road debris after the higway construction tore up a section of 128 overnight (back in aug) after writing 3 letters, sending a cd with pictures and waiting to hear back from the contractors ins co, in nov they call and ask me what happened?? i spoke with 3 different reps over a 3 month period and was given the impression that this was going to be taken care of ($350 to repaint my front lip which i just had redone in may) anyway they ask me what happened, i explain the whole story again, and she says well our insured can't be responsible for a rock that some truck shot up off the road.(help) you wouldn't believe the asphalt chips that were left behind after the grinding, it was like a white out with all the dust and debris....i couldn't see the cars in front of me and for about 1/4 of a mile my car was pellted like a hail storm...(nailbyt)...i'm not done with them, she was real arrogant as well....(pissed) she wanted to know why i didn't get off the road (4 lane highway, i got off at the next exit), how come they didn't get more complaints...like thats a reason to turn down my claim, and i took pictures of the car, why didn't i take pictures of the construction zone...i was going through that area at 6 am, it was still dark and how did i know i needed a camera to take pics that morning. i just wished i had had my video going they never would have believed the "storm" i went through. i've been driving a long time and i have never seen anything like this before, it was crazy bad! sorry for the rant!

+1 ... sorry if I didn't read the entire post I ran into a similar situation on 93 south bound south of the tunnel. The amount of crap NOT swept up properly was absurd. I took a trip to the Cape early summer/late spring time frame. I actually pulled off the highway into a parking lot to inspect the damage. My car was also damaged by all the rocks NOT swept up after the highway asphalt was chopped up and this was days after it was torn up confirmed by my girlfriend at the time. What a PITA!!!

4300 is insane.

Maybe it is time to start shopping for car insurance again. I had geico for 6 years and I gave them the boot. Liberty Mutual cut my rates in half. For all three vehicles, we're paying under $2k/yr.

that sucks dude. All they do is shaft you. Jack your rates or deny responsibility....and theres nothing anyone can do about it.

sometimes i wish i lived in an area where i could....but then i realize i would hate the population density that makes that possible.

Insurance needs a year end spring back (money) for good driving.

I pay 2200 for my speed3 and a 08 corolla s. The premium on the corolla actually costs more than the speed!

you could work in hartford, live in tolland and take the bus from vernon. though you'd still need a car for anything other than work so that prob wouldn't work out.
