i invested in a new ignition system...mazda part# FPY2-18-10X...i ordered the denso iridium plugs and my wires will be in tomorrow (from a 626)...let's see what happens...
i've been told that the factory unit doesn't "burn all of the fuel"...whether it's true or not, i don't know...there was a TSB for 99-00 protege's which is what the coil is for...a friend of mine had this done and he suggested it to me...so i thought i'd give it a try...
well, i work for mazda, so i bought the ignition coil and the wires from mazda...i ordered the plugs from nopi.com. i think the coil is around $30 and the wires are around $75...but of course i get a discount
ok, the new ignition system is supposed to add a little more torque and hp in low and mid rpm's...the car will idle better and give it better fuel economy...i'll post the part # for the wires shortly.

Yeah but a better spark mean a better burn which could mean a better A/F ratio, which could mean a longer more stable engine. By the way that attached picture is just white space.(flame2)
yeah, the file was too large for the website...go to www.corksport.com...under "jspec engines" it's the 170 hp for the protege's...it's got the ignition coil on it.
i'll try to post pics of mine asap.
here are some pics of the ignition coil...and where to mount it...you have to relocate a couple of things...i'll post pics of the coil on my car once i get it on...HOPEFULLY thursday.
