dman, you say you have the spring mod to increase boost a little, huh? 5-6 psi is stock boost, so either the spring is not doing anything or you may have some sort of leak. With the spring mod you should be seeing a little more boost, unless the spring has slipped off or is just worn out.
What is your vac reading at idle? It should be be right around 20 InHg. Also, make sure that the guage sits at zero with the car off. Check all of the vac connections to the guage for leaks, both in the engine bay and at the guage. You should use teflon tape on any threaded brass fitting such as the ones on the back of the guage to prevent any leakage there.
You really did not need colder plugs if you are only boosting 5-6 psi. However, they will not hurt anything. They may not last quite as long as stock plugs though and the IK22s are pretty expensive.
