Blower Fan Noise

I wondered if anyone has had an intermient noise coming from the blower fan. I have an 08 5AT and its now happened to me two or three times. It doesn't happen all the time, thus I am hesitant to bring it into the dealer. It doesn't matter what the climate control/vents are set at or whether the AC/Heat is on. It isn't speed related either and its not coming from interference from the radio. Its just a clicking sound. If I turn up the blower speed, the sound doesn't get much louder. I can only hear it when the fan is on a lower speed.

Any ideas?

I had a 04 mazda 6 with the same problem but you could only usually hear it at the lowest speed setting as the higher you go on the dial the sound of air usually overcame the clicking sound. I think the fix was to replace the blower fan from mazda but some guys reported on the 6 boards that the sound sometimes came back even with the new fan/blower.

Ask the dealer and see what they come back with albeit some dealers are better at dealing with problems than others.

Good luck...

I have the same problem. Its the recirculate fan under the glovebox. If I put the AC on fresh air it will not make that sound. It sounds like there is something rubbing against the fan blades.

I have noticed that the noise goes away/is less noisy when the recirculate button is not pressed. Also, the noise now goes away once I've been driving a few miles. I'm worried that I'll take it into the dealer and they'll say there is nothing wrong.

I was thinking about this thread today while I was taking apart my glove and dash. I needed to run another set of cables for my new amp, but I took a look behind the dash to try and find the AC blower motor. Its a squirrel cage type fan, and mine had a small dried up leaf in one of the fins. I took a thin long shaft (carbon fiber drive shaft from one of my helis) and put some double sided tape on the end and retrieved the leaf. No more sound. Make sure the AC is on recirculate otherwise there is a door that shuts off the fan to the interior. This explains why the sound is almost inaudiable when AC is on fresh air. I had to turn mine off and on a few times to get the leaf in the right spot to grab it.
Hope this helps someone :D

Its also a good idea to change cabin air filter. When I changed mine the fan ran quieter than before.
