Best wheel size and offset for autocross?

Just got my Hankook Ventus Z214 C71s in today. Ready for race season. This will be my first time on r-comps, I'm excited. :)

This is my 16's I used to use with 225/50/16 Dunlop Star Specs and had a pretty low drop and never rubbed. I would recommend either a 16 or a 17 15s are just too small and width is key with my 3 the rims were 7.5 but the wider the better. Pic below is my car is at a stand still (my grandma in car with me lol) I do realize its a 3 and not a protege but info is info.

Setup I will be doing for my new speed 6 the wheels are 17x9 with a +35 offste( want a offset that doesn't use too much inner or outer tire want it right in the middle)

So r-comps are amazing. 16th raw time. 3rd fastest FWD. Had to take the front mudflaps off because they touched the ground when I was on the 15's.

(Bumping an old thread)

You're running 205's? Is the car competitive locally in SM with that small of a tire?

Running 225's. Yeah, I win regularly. Haven't got lower than 2nd. If I went to more events there's no doubt in my mind I would have won the class for the year. I just haven't been to 7 events this year, and they use your top 7 for the year end points.

Wow. I think if I put on my FMIC and R-comps and tried running in my region I'd get smoked by 300+hp cars with fat tires. SM is a badass class, though. Good work.

Mostly muscle cars around here. Camaros, Mustangs, a WRX here and there. Don't get me wrong though, I know I'd get smoked in another region, or national level. I don't really care about that too much though. I'm not looking to travel to autocross. I could probably build the car to SMF specs and do fairly competitve on a national level, at least I'd like to think so. Don't think anyone's done that to a Protege thus far. I could be wrong though (it's happened once or twice before).

I think if someone was willing to modify the fenders and stick lots of rubber under the car and add boost, it could be competitive. Have a hard time getting it down to minimum weight, though.

kinda new to the tire and wheel scene, hope this isn't a stupid question, but what offset wheel would I need for running 225 tires? could I just slap some 225 on to the stock rims? If not getting an extra set of 16 wheels with a 225 accomodating width could be one of my options.

I've got a 225 on a 7 inch rim so I don't see why it wouldn't fit on the rim, but it would probably rub a bit on 17's. I'm not positive about that though. I have a lot of clearance with the 15's, but that's because of the diameter. I'm running 225/40/18's for street tires, and they rubbed until I rolled the fenders.

I think you could put 225's on the stockers no problem. As long as they weren't like 225/65's or anything. Are you looking to autocross your car?

3rd fastest in raw time at todays TnT, only 20 cars though. I let a Nationals winning driver/Evo School Instructor drive my car and he couldn't best my time. Yeah, I'm the man. He said it's very rare he drives someones car and they beat him by half a second.

Pow. Do you have a build thread for this? If not, it's time. Racing MSP's is the bomb.

Nah, no build thread. Just some bolt-ons, nothing fancy.

Seeing what (me +) the car is capable of today makes me want to keep it and bring it to the next level for next season. I'm thinking full DSP, or SMF build.

SMF would be pretty tasty. Those light Civics would most likely be hard to touch, but it'd be fun to try.

You know... you'd NEED a build thread for either! (drinks)

goddamn, I've completely forgotten about this thread, anyway, things have changed a bit, got new street tires on the stockers, hankook v12's.

so I'm looking for another set of wheels and tires, they will be mainly for track days, not sure if I want to bring them to autocross yet (have been running in DSP). So I'm thinking maybe another set of stock wheels or a different size of wheels? going for tires such as RS3's, might even turn to R-comp, haven't made up my mind yet. Any ideas on the size of wheels and tires?

I'm on stock blue struts in the rear, some black struts in the front that i have no idea what they are and s-tech springs all around.

I'm guess the front are KYB's. Find replacements. Lol
