I understand K&N does offer the panel filter. I am using the K&N RU-3580 Cone for now. But; I will eventually go with a CAI.

Stock

I am using the stock filter box combo. I would like another type but so far I have seen nothing to convince me another plain old non-CAI intake is better and for that matter the whole CAI thing seems to be hotly disputed as to its exact performance value.
I think I will get an entire exhuast next and then sweat some of the smaller stuff. Although the CAI's look really cool. :D

oh i guess this will be moved to another section since you guys are talking about air filters which by all means can be put on any combustible engine and not a msp only.

Hehe, actually i'm the guy who moved it back. And I don't have an MSP. :-P

I just bought the K & N drop in panel filter. It fits in the stock airbox. I haven't even put it in yet, I have the box right next to me. The part number is 33-2134, cost me about $30. FYI: The stock MSP air filter is the same size as all the other Protege 2.0's.

Do I get bonus points for posting something actually relating to the title of this thread?

You get respect from me for it. Good job and I'm glad you got the drop in.. I wasted money on the cone I have sitting in my garage due to the heatsoak as shown in the above dynos..

I too bought the K&N drop-in... haven't gotten it yet, though.
It was recommended by Jack at Ion. I called to inquire about their CAI and FMIC. I'm saving up for the FMIC so, he said there's not much of a gain from the K&N to the CAI without changing the intercooler.... which made sense to me. Plus, that's an extra $2-300 I can save toward the IC.

I'm still on the fence about whether to buy Ion's turbo-back or have one made custom locally. I know a guy who does good work but, hasn't done an MSP. However, the IC from Ion is definitely the answer for me.
