It's just not the most user friendly setup with the manual adjustment rather than an automatic tensioner.

I had a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire that had an auto tensioner on it and trust me that was a stripped out economy car if there ever was one. Mazda just doesn't tend to use them.

If you know what you're doing its easy to deal with

Plus you don't have to worry about replacing the tensioner stuff

I agree it isn't that hard to deal with but I still rather have an auto tensioner on a car.

As I've indicated in my previous post, proper installation of Dayco belts do squeal. I'm not saying you have not had good luck with them. What I am saying, however, is that you are being presumptuous claiming it is not a design issue because of your one example. What about the legions of Protg owners who still deal with this issue? Do you seriously believe that that many people don't know how to install and properly tension belts?

This is a well known and fairly widespread problem with these cars. Just do a quick search for belt squeal on any Mazda forum.
