How can these guys boost that high with stock internals and a turbo kit on a normal protege blows SO much lower??!! I know they have a different ECU and whatnot, but its just an fs-de! Does this mean that a normal protege with a turbo kit and one of the up and coming ECU's from perworks and terry will allow the fs-de to boost higher then previously still on stock internals??!!

1) larger turbos push more air at same PSI- so you can't really compare PSI to PSI- if there were a way to compare CFM, it would e more accurate.
2) the MSP ECU *supposedly* has less timing. If not, then it is still the smaller turbo moving less air not creating the same detonation issues at same psi.
3) I was running race fuel. Race fuel allows much higher boost without detonation.
Bottom line, it is not boost or HP that has killed so many motors- it is detonation and (lack of) tuning. Not saying nobody knows what they are doing, but the options are kind of limited so far (until at least Perfworks and I get the piggy back out
) and they don't have much to work with- coupled with not a whole lot of tuning experience. Unless you keep it at stock or close to configuration- any turbo car will blow up with improper tuning- whether it is a kit or factory.Don't get me wrong, I don't think the motor is all that strong, but weak motor plus poor tuning is just an accident waiting to happen.
