I Have 02 p5 and I bought 4 new tires last Year same brand of kuhomo 195/50/16. I noticed that my front tires are getting bald faster thean my back rear tires...I went to tire store and thye didnt have the size in stock so I have to have them replaced Asap.....Also the salesman said that I could get 50% credit for the back tires....wich each tire is 89.00

2 Front tires -New
2 back tires-1/2 credit

QUestion 1...Why are only my front tires balding?
Question 2...Should I have just fronts replaced or go ahead and do all 4?

I commute alot so..need get done asap..I live in AZ..HOT!!

Thanks

Do you rotate your tires? And on your front tires, which portion of the tire is wearing more? (Inside or outside)
When was the last time you had an alignment? If your alignment is out, you'll be back to this same spot with worn tires in no time.

Front tires will always wear faster which is why tires need to be rotated regularly. Also, depending on how aggressive you drive will affect the life of the tires as well as the hotter temperatures in Arizona. Tires on hot asphalt will wear a lot faster than on cool or warm asphalt.

Yea...I plan get alignment if I get new set or 2 tires...
Wear is even across...
Ben awhile since rotation....but usually I do rotate...

lol..Im far from an aggressive driver

^What he said,... the front tires are the drive wheels, they do most of the braking and more weight is on them as well.

I wouldn't go for the credit,... just get two new tires. You are going to pay for labor, installation, balancing and tax to replace tires with good tread.
You could put the new ones on the front or back. And then they would wear out in pairs at different times so you don't have to fork out for the full cost of four tires.

Keep in mind that they are probably directional tires so you can't swap tires from left to right,... just front to back.

Just so you know,... 205/50/16's fit perfectly. That's what my car came with and I've had no rubbing issues ever. (even when I had 1,100 lbs of shingles in the car)

There is a lot more choices and prices in that tire size. I saved hundreds on my set of tires with that size.

Thanks for your input...I think your idea better and after get a alignment and definetley get 205's when I purchase a new set...thnx

How much are you driving?
Do you drive aggresively regularly?
Is the balding even across the tread width or just on the insides or middle?

OMG dude are you serious with those questions? Im sorry but come on!! Like pcb said, your front first of all have all your weight on it with the engine on top of it as well as its a fwd car. Plus you most likely have a manual so your probably dropping the clutch a lot more so compared to an auto. Also you said you drive a lot and you live in phoenix. Lots of miles plus extreme heat will cause those to bald quickly. On top of theses cars have low profile tires and usually have small thread groves brand new so it just makes sense. Plus you probably havent rotated those bitches in what? Im going to say 30,000 miles. So yah I think that should answer your dumb ass question.

Keep in mind that they are probably directional tires so you can't swap tires from left to right,... just front to back.

Well, if you want to swap them side to side badly enough it can be done, but it is a lot of work:

1. pull passenger side wheel
2. dismount tire
3. flip it 180 degrees (so that it would rotate "backwards" if the wheel was remounted in its original location)
4. remount (and balance).
5->8 Same thing for driver's side wheel
9. Swap driver's side and passenger's side wheels.

Voila, R is on L, L is on R, and nothing is rotating backwards.

Can I put 2 - 205/50/16 on my car that already have 2-195/50/16's?
The 195's have alot good tread and I don't want to buy 2 more 195's.

this is very basic car maint.
my suggestion... not only do the above recommendations. but pull out your owner manual. read EVERY page. if your car did not have one. get one on ebay
