Aux input through SAT connection?

I just got a really nice Kinivio Bluetooth adapter and I want to hardwire it into the car if possible. Does anyone know if you can hook up audio through the SAT input so I can leave the standard input free for other devices? I found some cheap harnesses on Ebay for an aux input but I cant tell with certainty which input it will work through. Thanks in advance.

I don't see why not? You'd have to make sure you could still switch to the satellite setting on the radio once the receiver is gone- not sure if that would be an issue.

Subbing for progress. I am planning to do the exact same thing! :) Do you know what/how the SAT harness looks like in the rear of the OE radio? Do you have a pic? Do have the pin-out for the SAT harness?

Which Bluetooth are you using? I love the one I got, it supports 4.0 and apt x profiles and is crystal clear with my Moto X. My only issue is it only supports pairing with one device at a time, if my wife takes the car she needs to pair it with her phone. I also ordered a ground loop isolator because I cant stand the noise it makes from the alternator, fingers crossed about that, someone with a speed 3 said it worked awesome on theirs. Once I figure the input I will probably post a How to since I'm planning on some creative mounting for the phone as well as a power cable to charge it. All the info about the radio is available in the forums, just search for aux mod and you will find everything you need.

I'm not using any Bluetooth device currently. I am using a hardwire Apple 30pin to 3.5mm + USB cable. This works find except the buzzing (I work around it by not charging the device –only when necessary). I would prefer not using a ground loop isolator.

I’m look at the Kinivo BTC450, which I suspect is the same one you are using (limited to paring one device at a time).

From what I read: The low end budget GLI’s are filter what also filter out your highs and lowers the volume. The real GLI (transformers) cost in the 100 ballpark, which I rather not fork out. I am "hoping" that the SAT feed, b/c it is a different source, “might” not cause this looping buzz. Actually, this reminds me of an experiment I wanted to test out. Will come back to this shortly.

I havent finished a few much more important projects yet but my GLI just arrived, it was around $13 so I will let you know how it sounds. If it affects the sound at all I will let you know, I'm very critical of sound quality and can hear it immediately. If its essentially a high pass filter, its either going back or to the trash heap.

I can tell you when I plugged in my DVD player to the rear power outlet, there was no buzz so I'm hoping my new dedicated and shielded power wire for the BT will not have this issue. I've often wondered what the root cause is of all this, perhaps extra grounding is the answer? My guess is its something in the wiring of the car itself and the 2 ports are linked electrically somehow. I hope that using the SAT input will eliminate the problem altogether but we just dont know until someone does it :(

Just got back from a road test. It works fantastically! I didn't do a complete audition but I ran through a few tracks with and without the GLI, pausing and swapping it out and I didn't notice any apparent difference. A casual listener would definitely hear no difference in quality but the lack of interference would be obvious to anyone. Volume set to 22 was noisy as hell without and nearly silent with. I would need to really pick special music in a more controlled environment to listen for any quality loss.

Well, let us know which isolator you used!

Does this mean you are no longer pursuing SAT connectivity? If so, it might be for the better. I started looking in it a bit more and "think" I have an understanding on how the system works. The back of the HU only has two plugs. One for the main audio source and, my speculation, the secondary doubles for BOTH SAT and MEDIA (Aux). I came to this conclusion by the pinout of the secondary plug and looking at the Mazda SAT unit, which has a male and female secondar connector leading me to believe it is a pass through. So it seems the MEDIA plugs into the SAT which plugs into the radio. That eBay connector appears to e the solution for <'07 folks who don't already have Aux-in but of us +'08 owners, it contends with the stock plug... Need to bench test the unit. There has to be a way to trick it into thinking it is in SAT mode but you'd still have to tap into existing L/R audio wires. GLI seems to be the easist way to go.

This is the isolator I got: https://www.amazon.com (commissions earned) As you can see its pretty well reviewed and cheap enough, we ordered some other stuff for free shipping.

I am still pursuing the SAT input as I want all connections and wires hidden from sight. The BT I bought is just a nice little circle about the size of the volume knob that has a single wire with a y connection to a lighter plug/USB charging port and 3.5mm audio jack. My thinking is to bring the cable along with a charging cable out through the cassette slot cover. I dont mind losing the wired connection but would rather not if I dont have to obviously.

You may be right about the inputs but I hope youre not :) I would like to think that once there was an update for a factory aux input, they changed the radio to have separate functions. I will have to take it apart and test it to see what my options will be of course but I already have my plans. It will likely go one of 2 ways:
1. Sat input is separate and it works as expected, the connection gets buried with or without GLI
2. They work together on the same line and I will need to keep the GLI connection accessible to swap.

Either way its going to be awesome lol

Update: I did a thorough audition of the GLI with different music types and can honestly say, to my ear, it does not alter the sound quality. Even if a well trained ear might make out some difference, there is no way that ear would not make the miniscule sacrifice to get rid of the hum.
