Anyone try 626 gears in their FS-DEs?

I've got a busted 3rd gear synchro (finally, after 50,000 kilometers of grinding), and instead of cracking apart the gears, I'm thinking of just buying a 626 box and transferring the entire assembly over and using the stock final drive... any reason why this wouldn't work?

FS-DE with Capella transmission

I have Capella transmisstion installed on my FS-DE

is there any thread that shows all the compatible transmissions and the differences in gears? Wouldn't mind having some spare parts ya know :D

The Capella is an MX6, isn't it? (looks it up...) oh, it's a 626 sedan.

If you're from Taiwan, is this in a Ford Tierra or an SP20?

I kinda thought it would be okay... it's just a guy I'm asking says that the 626 tranny at their shop doesn't seem to match up... I'm asking for photos... just don't have time to visit them right now... werk-werk-werk. :(

I'm not looking at just swapping the transmission. I'm looking at buying the whole gearset as an assembly and mating it to my stock final drive. I just want the longer third gear, not the longer final drive (I had a 626, and the gearing is just too long compared to my current box).

well, capella is sedan (626 in US) , but the last model of it was MAZDASPEED CAPELLA (don't know if it made it to public) which was a V6 626 AWD body spiked up with body kit and a weird spoiler.

I'm assuming CAPELLA is another "name" for 626/929 in AUS I believe.

I believe they have stronger gears bc AUS'is always get big # on these cars but have no clue on their spec.

Supergti - pls get back on specs or some info on that capella tranny swap.

To heck with it, though... they're asking about 600$ for the transmission. I'm not interested in 1st, 2nd, the ridiculously long final drive or the bell housing... I'm just going ahead and ordering the upgrade kit from ProtegeGarage. Hey, Ken, what's the ratio on the 3rd and 5th on the GTX set?

I bet Capella in Japanese is the model of US Mazda 626. The gear ratio I have
3.307--1.842--1.310--0.970--0.755--4.105 which is different gear ratio from the factory (Taiwan Mazda not sure about US mazda).

The link shows a few pictures but in Chinese tho.
Since I got supercharge on, I'd like to have bigger ratio, so no need to switch gear often and gain some on maximum speed to around 150 mph.

not real sure on the ratio. when i put them into my protege i noticed no difference in terms of how the car performed in those gears VS the old ones

Online, it says the GTX 5th is a longer ratio... is this right? Oh well... as long as it's stronger. And what I really want is the LSD... :D

If those ratio are on Capella tranny then there's no difference in gear ratio's compare to FS-DE tranny.
However they might be stronger (scratch) ?

Supergti - what whp you putting down ? that might tell if Capella gears might be stronger after all.

First of all, my 3rd gear was screwed up so I switch it to 626 tranny. 626 tanny ratio is different from Protege in Taiwan.

I had a 626... the ratios were different... I found them online once, but it's difficult to find them now.

As far as i remember, 2nd, 3rd and 5th are slightly longer, and the final drive is 3.8... really long. My old car used to do 100 km/h at around 2.5 - 2.7k rpms.

I would love to even be at those RPMS at 70mph! As it is im somewhere around 3.1k rpms give or take.

My car now runs 100km at 2.5 k rpms. The factory tranny ran 100km at around 3k rpms
