im sure there is stuff on here about this already but i did a quick search and couldn't find anything..
im thinking im gonna buy the 3m stuff and do the hood and front bumper, i was just wondering if anyone's done this and how hard it is, and how if anyone has it on black paint and how it looks.

Greetings!

I personally didn't apply the 3M clear shield, I had someone the dealer recommend do it and it turned out fine. I do a lot of driving as I use my vehicle to make service calls and the hood and front bumper of my last vehicle started showing some rust spots after only 2 years. The car looked like I routinely drove it through a gravel pit!

Anyway, I have had my Mazda 5 for about 7 months now and the shield is holding up very well. In fact, I kind of wish the entire hood had the shield on it as the area above where the shield stops has some chips in the paint. The only thing you do notice is a thin line across the hood but it doesn't look bad at all. And the clear shield does make cleaning the bugs off the hood and front bumper much easier!

Through the dealer it was a bit higher, the total for the full package which covers the front, part of the hood and the backs of the side mirrors was $750.00. It comes with a lifetime warranty. The guy applied it in the winter time and there wasn't any issue with regards to the cold weather and drying time.

You could probably get it done cheaper by going through a 3rd party but I wanted someone the dealer recommended in case something didn't turn out so I'd have more people I could choke :)

I called a local guy a few months back about the same protection as 'Dellerane' described and he quoted me $500. Can't remember if it was lifetime or not though.
