Anybody SURF?

Wondering if anyone else out there with a P5 surfs?

The P5 comes with some nice roof racks as you know, but I'm wondering if anyone has come up with a good solution for strapping your surfboard using them.....

or has someone picked up some aftermarket surf racks?

let me ask some of my Hawaiian buddies around here in Honolulu. Quite a few of them surf and should be able to help you out. Give me a day or so for some answers.

I use to a long time ago...and here is an idea to use your P5 rack and have it work out just fine...

first go down to your local hardware store and buy some of the insulating foam that is split down one side for putting on pipes...you will need to put that across the top of each cross rail to protect the board.....then you can get some adjustable tie down starps from somewhere like wal mart to hold the boards down...just hook it from one side to the other....you you wanted to you could even get some small D-rings to attach to each side that would make it easier to hook the straps to.

I surf outta my P5. The stock racks work great! You can go to pretty much any surf-shop and get some rack pads, Da Kine is one brand. Just be careful opening you're rear hatch with your surfboard on! I wasn't paying attention, and got a big old scratch on the rear spoiler. I'd rather have the board IN the car, anyway. That's one of the big reasons why I picked a wagon.

Yeah, I actually have a set of really nice FCS double soft racks(from my old car). But I figure, that kinda defeats the purpose of having the installed hard roof racks, right? Considering I will have to take them off if I wanna use the soft rack.

How do those rack pads work? How do you secure the boards?

eggynatey, what do you ride? I have a 7'3. I don't think that will fit even with the seats folded down.

The biggest board I can fit in there without putting the seat down is about 6'8". I ride a 6'4" and it fits like a champ!
Also the Da Kine pads are just that, only pads. They open kinda like a clam-shell and slip over the stock racks, then velcro shut. But I'm sure they'll sell you some some straps, too.
Maybe you can modify(read: **** up) your FCS's?
