Alternative Automatic Shift Gate?

I'd like to know if there is an alternative bezel for the automatic "shifter". I'd like it to be more like my 335i with less "jogs": Straight up and down for PRND and then left and up and down for "manual".

I don't know if the switch logic below the gate would allow it, but I'd think that it might be possible to make a different shaped gate...

Anyone know?
Thanks,
Mark

Not really sure that would be wise. The shape of the gate keeps the PRND in there respective locations. If you take that out I don't think they'll be anything stopping it from engaging the other gears, or at least making it easy to knock it to another.

Only one way to find out right? I would say start with a cardboard template of what you want your gates to look like. From what you've described I think you want an inverted L shape correct? Then use the template to mock it up in the car, maybe duct tape it to the console. It will only take a short drive to prove or disprove your idea. I think it would work just fine, you would want to be careful in shifting to reverse, but the gear indicators on the dash should help there. Most importantly, if it works tell us! And good luck too LOL
