alarms?

lets say i bought an alarm for my p5.. since i have the basic p5 which just has keyless entry, would any alarms be plug and play since the upgraded model p5 comes with a perimeter alarm??? how hard would it be to install an alarm???

If you get the Hornet 700T, it is an add on alarm. You can keep your factory keyless entry remote. It took me about an hour to install mine. Time factor will determine how skilled you are in automotive electronics. If you've never installed an alarm before, you may want to have a pro do it. The 700T ran me about $75 bucks.

Nope, the factory alarm is made by CODEAlarm. I'm not sure the exact model, but it is pretty expensive to buy from the dealer. The Hornet alarm I bought is a DEI product. I have installed many DEI alarm systems and they are excellent for features and reliability.

Here's a link to CODE Alarm: www.codl.com
DEI's website is: www.directed.com

I just did a search on it...seems like your basic alarm. Any other companies allow you to tap into the keyless entry like that? I'd like a remote start but I doubt its going to happen w/o a new remote. (i kinda like the stock remote)

You can get the DEI remote start module and connect it to the Hornet 700T. It would be activated by pressing the lock button twice. There are also several other modules available for the 700T. If you go to DEI's site you can download the installation manual in PDF format and it shows some of the options available for it.

I'm not sure of too many others that interface into the factory keyless entry module, but you can definitely disable it and just install a full blown alarm system with keyless entry and the whole works.

sweet, I'm all about that. btw, does a remote start even work with a stick? Obviously you would have to leave it in neutral, but is there an override for having the clutch depressed?

Yes, it will work fine, but the instruction manuals warn against it. I forget which wire I tapped, but it is right above the clutch pedal. This will bypass the clutch switch. Oh yeah...just make sure it's parked in neutral...lol.

I don't think these are 'plug in play.' They use the factory keyless entry to lock/unlock the doors, but everything else is like a standard alarm. (aka, some assembly and wiring required)

So basically, these just allow you to use your factory remote. I don't know why, but I like my factory remote.
