Yeah its loud but the solution is easy guys. You dont have to roll down any of the back windows all the way down. Just a inch fixes the issue.
If the front right window is down the crack the rear left, and vice versa problem solved and the thread can live happily ever after.

I like driving with my windows down all the way. It's not a huge deal since my wife is the primary driver of the mazda5 and she doesn't ever roll windows down.

We've had our 08 M5 GT for 4 days now and already have 600 klics on it. We had a Grand Caravan and what can I say...just the savings on gas almost pays for the vehicle. I do however have one concern.
2 days after getting the car/van/micro/shuttle/wagon, I let my son in the second row put down is window...Holy C**p I tought a helicopter was freeking landing in the van. So here it is . When we open one or both of the second row windows from 40 km/hr on (25 m/hr) this is what happen's. 1st: our ears pop (not a word of a lie) 2nd: The kids start crying (the noise is absolutely unbearable) 3rd: The lining in the ceiling of the vehicle start flapping up and down. WOW! I have never seen or eared anything like it.
So I deceided to call the dealer...The sales guy said it was absolutely normal all vehicles with 4 windows to this (not to plug Dodge, but there's don't). How did the sales guy put it...Oh yea, Normal air turbulance. Yea for somehow which just open a window on a 747 at 20000 feet. The general manager was more understanding and less dismisive (you know, once the sale is done). Soooo are there any other owners which have a small air disturbance in thiere M5?

I agree, I open 1 or 2 of the front together with 1 or 2 of the back windows. I experienced the same weird ear popping sound once when I forgot to close the back window after closing the front windows.

My kids are afraid to put down there windows

It's that bad...We just purchased a Mazda 5 GT 08 and the noise is absolutely deafening. I understand some people are trying to find a solution to remedy this unacceptable noise and by reading some of the replys some seem to take offence at someone critisizing the Mazda product. But come one this is absolutely a flaw...there should be a recal.. I think personnaly that it dangerous.

Doesn't anybody think that this is a flaw? I don't think that it should be normal for your ears to pop when someone put's down a window at 25 m/hr. I think that with a familly 3 children this is a perfect van...but knowing what I've experienced...I could not refer this vehicle. I beleive this is too much of a major problem.

It's just the way air moves. Every 4 door car I have ever owned has done this. From my 1998 Lincoln Continental to my 1994 Saturn SL2 to my 1998 Cadillac Catera to my 2005 Acura TSX. It's air.

Email it to me and I'll be glad to post it! I'm ROFLMAO!! We know what you are talking about. I've got 3 kids and in a few weeks 4. Cracking a front window will solve the problem.

I'd guess that ventshades on the front windows might be enough to solve this, but it is just a guess.

Think about blowing across the top of a Coke bottle. It's the same thing. Disrupting the air flow directly in front of the window may keep it from "playing a tune" with the car.

I love the car and this problem will not keep me from enjoying it.

Make it a TSB and put something on your car. Don't make it manditory for all of us.

all of my cars have done this. usually if i'm going to put a window down, they're all going down to cut the turbulence and noise.

ours doesn't flap or scream to the extent that you're describing. my kid doesn't like when the windows are down, but she doesn't start crying or flipping out. have you gone to the dealer and drove them around? that would be my first step.

this is our second 5 and haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary.

if one considers it a flaw, then theres alot of automakers that would be in trouble. The air being forced in has to escape somewhere and when its forced back out the same windows its going to make noise. You have two forces of air competing to go through the same opening.

I merged these 2 threads because it seems to be a common topic. I think it has been detailed the reasons and solutions but I just would like to add that the "phenomena" seems to be more pronounced in the Mazda5 given its shape.

Other than that, same as any other 4 door car (I still remember my dad's Suburbans (yeah, he had 3, loved the things), only good thing is that you were able to crack the liftgate window!)

As noted by others, it is not a flaw, but rather a consequence of car design. Basically, the more aerodynamic the vehicle, the more I have seen the effect. My old '77 volvo was a brick and didn't really have this issue too much. MY Toyota Echo isn't too bad either for a font window, but noticeable with just a back windows open.

For those of you with a Sunroof, try this. Open the the rear right passenger window a bit and open the sunroof. You don't get the dramatic pressure however you do get a nice wind circulation that comes around your on the left side of the driver's seat.

Found this by accident and love the cool breeze that moves around inside the cabin.

This works particularly well if someone lets a silent stealth one go in the car. Evacuates that offending odor pretty quick!
