AEM is teh suck

Okay, after further driving....the intake pipe still gets hot. I was in bumper/bumper traffic for a good 20min. The loss of power from heat soak isn't there as much. Still pulls nice in 2nd and 3rd gear. Could just be my imagination.
I use a intake wrap on the intake and it seems to help with the heat

i dont know guys, im kindof hesitant to chop upmy intake. I dont wnat my tab to get sawed off and look janky. I thinkill leave it how it is.
well you can just bend that piece down to where you can still close the hood.....and if you dont like it, bend it back. I bent mine to the side temporarily and i eventually had it cut off....its actually very easy to bend it.

yeah that works too....or you can just use the same fiberglass wrap you use to wrap a header.

on a fs-de n/a motor(or any n/a motor for that matter) putting the filter behind a fan = dumb, im not sure what they were thinking when this was designed(maybe they weren't at all)

(mswerd)

thats why i reversed the piping after the maf where the filter is on the original maf end and the maf is on the original filter end (i hope that makes sense) that way the bracket faces downward

sorry to bump an old thread but i figured i would contribute my 2 cents. i switched my intake around and relocated the overflow right under it using an angle bracket and the tab on the top of the bottle.

idk if anyone already did this but if not then its a good place. bottle dosent move at all

Thank you for reviving this thread.

I've been wanting to put and intake on forever but have been hesitant due to friends hydro lock horror stories, and the fact that all the SRI's i could find for this car looked to be in terrible positions. With the SRI in this position and a heat shield added this should give near equal numbers to the race one that sits in the well with all the reliability of an SRI. Thanks for the info, I'm defineley going to order one.

I've got an AEM SRI but I have no idea if it is helping my car or not (I baught the car used from a person that had it baught/installed himself). I'm pretty sure its the standard installation (by the engine). It does seem like having it on the side has cooler air. So, will moving it to the side definatly be useful?

switched my aem sri to the new spot, I have to admit I'm kind of worried about how sturdy it is in its place. Yes the dry flow would probably be quite snug, but my k&n filter, even with my heat shield attached, seems a little wiggly. I moved my coolant resevoir to the whole on the side of of where it used to be mounted, little bit lower, but it works. Other than that, growl is louder, and I believe I can notice a stronger pull. I'm also cleaning my filter as I type this, so we shall see how it really does.

ive had mine like this for about 3 weeks or so now and i deffinately noticed a change. pulls harder in all gears between 3000 and 5000 but most noticably in 2nd and 3rd. i also havent had a problem with it just kind of sitting in its position. i had the hood open and gave it a few good revs and it looked pretty solid.

This thread definitively makes me want to buy the AEM cold air intake.
Originally, I wanted a short ram, but too much heatsoak due to the intake beeing very close to the engine
And didnt want a CAI due to hydrolock / salty dirty winter roads down here in Montreal, would get dirty very often
but with this option, run the filter behind the headlight, run a flex-pipe from the bumper to the CAI, water cant get in, only air. SWEET.
