Hey guys,

I have been having a bit of light dim when I push my system with bass heavy music. Below is my set up.

Apline CDA7995
JL Audio 300/4 Connected to 6.5" XR Components up front and 6.5" VR Doors Speakers in rear
JL Audio 250/1 Mono Block hooked up to single 12" Edesign sub.
All wired up through a distribution block and the heavy gauge wire(4 I belive)

Was at my dealer today just checking in and he suggested getting a 1 farad Phoneix Gold Cap. (Actually initially wanted to go with a 1.2 Farad Cap from a company called Massive but it was too expensive for my tastes and it was too big to fit under the seats next to the amp and putting it in the trunk too far from the amp would be pointless along with the fact that I just don't want to do that.)

My questions are:

Would putting this in help me with my light dim with my relatively low power system (compared to some others on the forum)?

Would I be better off going with a yellow top battery?

If I do go for it, what's a fair price to pay at an authorized dealer and how much should i go in at saying I am willing to pay for it before installation. I did my whole system with them so I have a little bit of room to get them to come down on the price since it's repeat business.

Just as a reference point I have seen these for around $100 at their lowest on Yahoo! Shopping, most are more then that, and I understand that those are not authorized dealers so they may or may not be the real thing? Just something to think about.

It would help but not necissarily fix it. If you noticed i have a 5 farad cap and I STILL get a little dim when the bass hits hard at high volume levels. I don't think the battery will help because once the car is on it's all alternator.

a 1 farad cap will help but not totaly stop dimming as that are not what they are intended for. That is just a side effect.

Look at it this way, a cap holds a charge and you amp quickly uses it to aviod draining the alternator BUT the cap has to recharge as well. The battery won't realy help since the alternaot is running the show when the cars on.

Thanks for the advice guys. Anybody have ideas on what a "fair" price is for the Phoneix Gold Cap?
