2001 Protege LX 2.0 Mazda Tires hit the spring

i have a pair of 235/45/17s for my car and they came off a friend of mines 2001 Protege5

if these are not the right size what should they be ?

205/215-45-17. You can get spacers but it will probably rub the fenders. Our cars have no need for a 235 I know with a 215 mine won't even do a decent burnout
