2.0 pprotege belts

Does anyone know how to replace the radiator belt and serpenteen belt and could explain the steps in detail or with pictures? 2.0 protege lx

hmmm. Radiator belt? no such thing.

On my 2.0, there are two belts. One is for A/C and power steering. The other is for the alternator and water pump.

to replace the power steering+A/C one, you loosen (do not remove)the bolt holding the power steering pump on (the bolt is near the cam position sensor at the top left of the engine, as seen looking into the car from the bumper), then you loosen the bolt right under the pulley (both are 14mm bolts) and once those are both loosened, you can back out the adjusting bolt (again, 14mm) that is underneath the power steering pump. As you back that out, the pump will move downward about the first bolt, which acts as a hinge. As the pump drops, there will be enough slack that you will be able to slip the belt off of the pulleys.
installation is obviously the oppostite of removal.

the alternator belt is almost entirely the same, except that you...nevermind. it's too hard to explain. i'll just attach instuctions. see below.

Any tips or tricks to getting the belts back on the pulleys? I've got a 2000 Protege 1.6L but it has the same belt setup. I got everything off OK but I can't get the new belt over the final pulley for the alternator. The alternator has been loosened and is as slack as it can go, but I can't seem to get the belt on. Doesn't seem to matter which order I do the pulleys in... whichever one is last the pulley just won't fit.

you sure you got the right replacement belt? If your adjustment pulley is as slack as it can go, you should be able to easily slide it over with room to spare.

Finally got it on. The biggest problem I had was that although the alternator and the water pump pulleys would turn, the drive pulley wouldn't, which made it hard to work the belt around the lip of the pulley. I eventually figured out that I could turn the drive pulley a little bit, so I hooked a breaker bar to the main nut and turned the drive pulley while working the belt slowly across the lip. It took several rotations, but eventually it went on. FYI, the nut on the drive pulley is a 21mm.
