17-inch rims and tires fitting a 2002 Protege ES 2.0

Do I need to make any special modifications or upgrades to anything, like bigger brakes, or larger fenders, on my 2002 Mazda Protege ES 2.0, in order for a new set of 17-inch wheels with tires to fit and perform properly? Will my 17-inch wheels mount and fit easily? I don't think that they will rub on the fenders, as I still have the stock suspension height? Though, if I were to lower my car's suspension, it would cause some extra issues I would think.

You don't need any special modifications to fit 17 inch rims on there just make sure to look out for offset, bolt patterns, and hubcentric rings. I find that with any aftermarket rims almost, without lowering your car it looks pretty weird (4x4 stance). So i'm lowered 1.25 all around with 17s.

Youll be fine. I got myself a 1.2" F and 1.8" R drop to have a "flush" look. Cause the car on oem springs looks jaked up, especially with 17" lol

Does it cost a lot to lower the suspension? What do you need to get in order to do so? I did have the rear struts replaced a short while ago...does it mean that I will have to switch my struts again in order to lower it? Or is it just about the springs? Won't my car look funny if I lower it without having a body kit on it?

There are LOTS of wheels that will fit, especially without lowering.

Take a look at tirerack: http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/resu...rSpecial=false&filterWeight=All&filterNew=All

Buy the lightest you can afford (better acceleration, ride, and braking). You can even see what a set will look like on your car by clicking on "View on Vehicle". Check em out.

Speaking of lowering springs, these can be used without having to buy new struts:

I've got a set on my 2014 3. The ride is definitely stiffer, but not harsh. The car now corners much flatter.
