ZR-1 is new King of the 'Ring

No s***, its "theeee track" to test out. The Corvette team isn't gonna be like "we ran a 1:03:45 at Bob's country circuit" that won't sell cars nor is it impressive.

The ring was always used as a benchmark. Its just that US companies are now finally "getting it" and you here about more often.

eh... I'd rather have the GT-R..

me too...
I don't know why but when I think about a Corvette I instantly see middle-aged man with crazy back hair driving it around in a white beater, jean shorts, and black socks with white shoes...gives me the creeps

haha, my roommate (who is female) and I both love the Corvette but we ONLY see old white dudes driving it. So I agree with you half way. The clothes and back hair...uhm, where do YOU live?? ;)

I think pickups/camaros when I hear you say that, not 50k + Vettes.

So basically, Chevy requires $30K more money and 160 more hp to achieve a 3 second advantage on a road that no owner will likely ever drive either car on. Sounds like a deal to me.

Video Proof Of The 2009 Corvette ZR1s 7:26.4 Nurburgring Lap

Awesome...

2009-Corvette-ZR1-Nuburgring.jpg

We've been eagerly waiting for this since we first heard the news of the stunning 7:26.4 Nurburgring lap time set by the 2009 Corvette ZR1. Now, we've finally got the footage of the Godzilla-killer in action, ripping up the Nordschleife. But will this silence the skeptics? Either way, the Nissan GT-R had better have something fast in store with the 2010 Nissan GT-R Spec V. But enough talk, let's sit back and enjoy the show.

Wow, that was a really cool video. You can see that he got mad at himself a little after six minutes because he slid sideways for half a sec. It takes some serious balls to run that hard and fast....what a wild job.

Anyone know of the GTR vid?

you're right...but then again, 99.9% of GTR and Z06 owners won't run on that track either (and even those that do aren't going to turn these times), but it was apparently a big frickin' deal when the GT-R posted a better time than the Z06.

since this is just all about bragging rights anyway, no one really cares WHY a car is slower. my miata is slower and cheaper than either of them, but no one's impressed by "well, it's 17 years old and has 237,000 miles on it." ;)

ZR-1 and GT-R side by side. There is a GT-R video on its own somewhere there, but to keep this thread on-topic...

It was a big deal because all the domestic guys said the GT-R wasn't going to be able to compete with the Z06 on the street or the track.

that video makes you appreciate the gran turismo series if you've ever played those games.. they did a hell of a job making an accurate version of the ring for the game.

Hey, I almost beat an '08 Viper ACR in raw time on Saturday in an NC, but he got me by .3 on his last run. I really wanted to be able to say I beat the Viper. The guy in the NA that beat me did beat it, though.

All these times actually made me burn a few hours last week trying to beat them. Unfortunately, my S/C Caterham on super-soft race tires hasn't been able to beat 7:45 so far, but I suck.

That's the insane part. I can't come close to those times in Forza 2 or GT4. Even when using faster cars, and having no risk of death or injury. Those guys are top notch drivers.
