Z5, bp, bpt

So I have a question that no amount of searching and googling has brought me an answer to...

A 1995 Protege with the 1.5L Z5...does it have the same motor mounts as a BP or a BPT? Or would it need to be a custom fabricated job?

Thanks guys

the mounts are in relation to the chassis, not the motor...since the BH chassis was available with the BP engine then it's safe to say that motor mounts for a 95 BP powered protege should bolt up to your car

that does not mean that the z5 mounts will bolt up to the BP...and that's actually doubtful considering the block is different (as opposed to the same block but a different displacement), but I wouldn't be able to tell you for sure

check www.onlinemazdaparts.com and see if the part numbers are the same between the two's motor mounts...if they are then yea they use the same mounts, if they are different then no

japanese car companies are about saving money...if they can produce a single chassis with the ability to run various different mounts to adapt to various different engines without making any changes between each engine's chassis then that's what they do...especially through the late 80s, 90s, and early 2000s...it's way cheaper to bulk produce one chassis and then throw different ammenity packages on it instead of having to product 70% of one style chassis and 30% of another style

Well I know the motor will fit, and I know that because there is a BP in the BH generation that I could fit it in there with stock mounts...I just wanted to know if the Z5 and the BP used the same mounting points.

Now that we clarified that, though, does the BP and BPT GTR engine use the same engine mounts/mounting points?

And does a BH Protege have holes in the engine bay that I could bolt a set of BPT mounts into? Will I need to drill?

Me, I'm more of a Toyota guy myself, and I know my way around Toyota engine codes like the back of my hand. Mazda's engine codes, besides the rotaries, are greek to me. Trying to get a little more information.

the bp vs. bpt mounts should be the same...if they are different, the mounting points themselves that are cast into the block are not

as for the GTR engine using the same mounting points, it's HIGHLY likely but that one I cannot say for 100% certain...I doubt they changed the casting on the engine for such a limited run engine, you shouldn't have a problem...but since there are so few of those swaps that I've read up on I cannot say that with 100% certainty (obviously)

the bh protege chassis should have the exact same mounting locations for the bp/bpt mounts and the z5 mounts...cross reference the part number on www.onlinemazdaparts.com to see if they are even the same mounts, or look at the diagrams of the mounts (if they are available on onlinemazdaparts.com) to see if the mount->chassis mount holes are in a similar pattern...if so then you should be in the clear, if not then you have a better answer than nothing at all and should do some more research

from my experience with mazda engines they go out of their way to utilize the same mounting points...the ford probe uses the same mounting locations for the 4 cylinder FS and the V6 KL engines, and the v6 KL engine drops into the BJ chassis (99-03) using the same mounting locations...I'm extremely confident that your chassis will use the same mounting holes for both engines, and I'm also extremely confident that the mounts are going to be different between the z5 and the bp

do some searching around on onlinemazdaparts.com...you can retrieve parts numbers off of there for cross referencing, and for most of the parts they have a full diagram of the part in question...remember, you are only looking to see if the mount->chassis side is the same, whether or not the rest of the mount is the same is irrelevant until you determine that

The engine will fit. We had done several of the installations of BPT engines into BH chassis cars.

If I remember correctly you use the 1.5 engine bracket and install a 90-94 G type transmission with the BPT engine. The reason for the earlier gearbox is the BH chassis cars used an F transmission which is not as strong. The BH chassis BP engine also used a smaller clutch.
