You know you are driving an MSP when...

...when the crx at the light revving will beat you since vtec doesnt lagg (expirienced)

.....when you actually beat the crx bc it was cold that night

you know you drive an MSP when you are scared to drive long distances because of the fear of breaking down(mspo) <--DANGIT, I NEEDA TOW TRUCK!!!

you know you drive an msp when your car decides to overheat but the gauge says its completely cold...(experienced JUST YESTERDAY)

when your tires hop so bad it cracks you manifold, support bracket, and breaks your muffler off all in one day... :(

your wastegate sounds like your turbo or engine is seizing sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

when you know all the problems just seem like nothing when you realize you have 160,000km's of AWESOME driving in the car and ALL I've had to replace are the brakes, tires and muffler.

You know you're driving a MSP when the "You know You're Driving a MSP When" thread is 99% jokes about unreliability...... Owned

You know you're driving and MSP RIGHT when you don't have reliability issues like the rest of the group b**** about constatly. Other than popping the diff and upgrading the WGA, everything I've done to the MSP has been by choice. I've put in $2000 in repairs over the course of 32K miles in under 2 years. 6 cents per mile repair costs. I'm OK with that.

Way to ignore the majority of posts in this thread.

You Sir, are the minority. And for the record, $2,000 in repairs in under two years isn't anything to write home about. Especially since you love to DIY...

I've owned both sports cars and economy cars that have needed nothing but oil, plugs, air filters / cleanings and brakes for 5 years of use. Do we really need to look at the Owner : Issue ratio of these cars ? For such a small community (MSP's only), these things are plauged with issues. Granted, some issues stem from people not knowing how to maintain or treat a car properly, but from what I've seen, most issues are due to poor quality and lack of consideration on Mazdas part.

I'm glad you chalk up your lack of issues to "Driving your MSP right".... Which implies that the rest of us are clueless as to how to drive properly, and the failures of these under-engineered piece of s*** cars are our fault. Did I get it right ? We the owners are primarily at fault for poor craftsmanship ? Just checking.

If I seem bitter, it's because I am. I've just never seen such consistent issues with a car I've owned, as I have with the MSP. Not even just my issues, but the ones that people have time and time again. I came here from years of rock solid reliability, and this is just tough to swallow.

Ok... really, relax. Its a joke... just like everyone else's post in here. I count my blessings every day my car runs without breaking, just like everyone else here.

Sorry man,

I'm just super bent out of shape about the $$$ I've put in this car just to keep it on the road. My experience is not identical to everyone elses, but I see a lot of issues on the forum. I've had pretty damn good experiences with the many cars I've owned in the past, and this has just soured me a bit, as you can tell.

I have a bad temper, and it takes a bit to simmer down....

I love your car and hope u sell it.. But you did buy a very very modified one.. Not a close to stock one.. That tells me 2 things.. 1 : someone drove the s*** out of the car before you.. 2 they didn't put the best stuff in the right way..

Thank you, and thank you.

The only modified part of my car that has failed is the PAR tranny, and that was because PAR didn't include info on the crazy gear oil change intervals that they require, to avoid pitting of the teeth. Other than that's it's been Mazda parts that have s*** the bed.

Granted, you are 100% correct that when buying a modded car, there is more potential for issues, but at the same time, this isn't my first or 5th for that matter, Rodeo, and my previous experiences were nowhere near like this. Quite the opposite in fact.

This car had one owner before me, and he was "SlowMotionMSP", he has a stickied thread about "How much is my MSP worth". He is a 45 year old Indian man named Akbar. I know that he drove the car aggressively at times, but him and I still talk, and I doubt he really beat it too badly.

The shop that "built" my car specialized in turbocharging big domestic motors, and was not some hole in the wall shop. Kisor Performance, in Ohio (youtube it). So it was built by a pro, for sure. In addition to the repairs, I've also spent some decent $ on changing / adding parts of this set-up, which is fine & 100% my call.

I'm just saying, that I'm 28 years old, have owned a ton of cars, all used, and just now am I seeing a reason to buy new cars only from this point on.

Argeed! And I own 2 MSP's one with 104k on the clock and another with 112k. If you don't beat the snot out of them you won't have serious problem's. I learned that with my probe gt after going through 3 transmissions and a motor.
I also knew about all the issues with these cars before I bought one, but I can't say it stopped me from wanting one. I bought one because I like having a car with some oomph that not everyone else has, otherwise I would have just bought a wrx or a mustang.

all of the little quirky mazda things that have broke on it can also be pointed back to driving the piss out of a car originally... my one car that i am redoing the motor (by choice) has never had any of the goofy issues.. i dont have a clunk.. occationally i have a squeek, a little bit of grease stops that.. no broken endlinks.. nothing that most people suffer on these
