Yet ANOTHER Tire Question: Snows or All Season for Winter???

So here's my dilemma and why I'm torn.

I have a brand new set of Volks and Pole Positions that I plan to take off once the weather here in Central Pennsylvania starts getting crappy.
As we all know, summer performance tires are a joke in the snow, and I don't want to run my Volks in salt and cinders.

But when it comes down to it, we really only get two or three days of actual snow driving where I live, so soft, squishy and expensive snow tires that wear out quickly when driven on dry pavement seems like overkill and a waste of money.

I've been looking at all season tires that fit my stock wheels, but none of the tires seem to get very good reviews from users that reported on Tire Rack or Discount Tire Direct. Well, except for the offerings that are around two bills a corner.

What do you guys think about all season tires? Any recommendations?
Should I look into a set of 17's to open up my options? I thought about that, but then I'm adding the expense of another set of wheels into the equation.

I dunno what to do.

I'm debating the same thing, I really like the looks of the pirelli pzero nero M&S pinna's they are $136 a piece on tirerack. I cant justify spending $200 a corner on true snow tires for the occasional snow here and horrible ride quality on dry pavement.

I live in MN and winters here can get pretty nasty so I plan on just springing for the 18 blizzaks, leaving them on and just buying new wheels in the spring for the summer tires. I thought about going the steelie route, but since I wanted new wheels anyway, this is much less of a hassle.

I live in Missouri and ran the Pirelli PZero Nero on the stock wheels last winter.
They did a good job in the amount of snow that we receive here. They performed very well on cold dry roads and wet roads .
I think an all-weather tire is a better option than a snow tire for me. That way I still have good performance when the roads are just cold or wet with no snow or ice on them.

I spent last winter in Chicago, so I NEEDED dedicated snow tires. I found a used set of 17x7" Ford Fusion wheels with a set of Dunlop Wintersport M3 tires on them (only had about a half of a season on them) on Ebay for $400.

Probably the best desicion I could have made.
